I think the most important lesson we’ve learned from this is that Twitter is your friend; and sometimes Twitter is actually meant for something other than Alec Baldwin‘s endless rants about the paparazzi. More

When you think of fashion snakes, you may think of oversexed Milan-based labels like Versace or Roberto Cavalli. You might think of this Alexander McQueen campaign for Spring 2012. You might also think of Daphne Guinness, if you know your fashion vocabulary. What probably doesn’t spring to mind is arid French house Lanvin, with all its good taste and classy acolytes like Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton. More

Are you familiar with the phrase “tumbril remark?”
It’s a great phrase. Tumbrils were used to carry French Aristocrats to the guillotine and tumbril remarks refer to things the entitled aristocrats said that made the peasants feel like they were completely justified in killing them. “Let them eat cake” is usually the example cited. Speaking of, how about that Daphne Guinness! Let’s look at her remark in The New Yorker: More

Beer heiress, designer, and socialite Daphne Guinness is one interesting dresser. New York City’s Fashion Institute of Technology knows this, so they convinced her to help curate an exhibit featuring a bunch of the bizarrely beautiful clothing and accessories she’s collected over the years. In addition to Guinness’ clothing and accessories, the exhibit will feature short films, photography, and some never-before-displayed items designed by Daphne’s friend, the late Alexander McQueen. Here are some of the items that will be featured. More
Fashion designers are often guilty of producing womenswear that looks strikingly beautiful in editorials but is completely unwearable for most of the population (I’d say “all” if maniacs like Daphne Guinness and Anna Dello Russo didn’t exist). Along those lines, we’ve got a pervasive new trend emerging in the glossies: lace masks. They recently flooded the Fall 2011 couture runway at Chanel (above), then obscured Carine Roitfeld’S face in that first shot from Riccardo Tisci’s Visionaire, then hit Claudia Schiffer’s German Vogue cover, and now Katie Holmes’ Spanish Vogue editorial… Here’s those recent twists on the mini-trend and many other previous examples. Fashion industry luminaries descended upon Natalia Vodianova’s White Fairy Tale Love Ball. Vodianova’s event called for “white or silver” gowns, which Daphne Guinness seemed to ignore. Check out all the opulent couture on supermodels (Stella! Mariacarla! Eva!), actresses (Anne!), designers (Valentino!) and editors alike. And Olivia Palermo. More
