Last week Jennifer and I were figuring out some upcoming Friday Style Icons because I didn’t want every week to be about mining ’90s movies I liked as a child. And we immediately concluded, Let’s do A League of Their Own! Unfortunately, A League of Their Own is the opposite of what we were trying to do. So I did a gallery of awesome Chloe Sevigny looks. This week, as we were compiling stuff for our tribute to the ladysports classics, intrepid intern Jill was like, “Just like Nylon!” and we were like, “WHAA?” Then she broke our fucking hearts by showing us a spread in this month’s Nylon about makeup inspired by A League of Their Own. Since we’d already gotten a bunch of images together, we were like, fuck it, it’s okay, people can accept that two separate entities arrived at the same obscure idea independently. Right? Right? More

When Winter’s Bone star Jennifer Lawrence took to the red carpet at last night’s Academy Awards ceremony, a lot of heads turned. Not just because she dramatically pulled off the “disadvantaged, gravely precocious meth kid” rubber mask she’d been wearing to reveal she was crazy hot, but also because her Calvin Klein dress looked familiar. So. The People’s Choice Awards. They happened. And a bunch of (mostly midlist) starlets showed up in (mostly heinous) designer dresses. Honestly, the reason it took me so long to put this gallery together was I had to spend a few days verifying that the People’s Choice Awards were in fact a real awards ceremony that happened in the tangible world. Black and white and blue all over… just like the runways instructed, cobalt was ubiquitous this year. Here’s a gallery of our 25 favorite looks from the red carpet this year, which run the gamut from Diane Kruger’s stunning minimalism to Tilda Swinton’s avant garde silhoutte and a whole lot of electric blue in between. Alessandra Ambrosio, she of the doe-like features and endlessly lithe figure, has her work cut out for her lately: just the most recent gigs involve being a face of Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2011 campaign and appearing in an editorial for Numero Tokyo, and then there’s her year-round work as a professional genetically-gifted person, Victoria’s Secret Angel. Here she is vamping for Vogue Mexico’s December 2010 issue, shot by Stewart Shining. More
