The Fashion World Of Jean Paul Gaultier: A Living Legend Gets The Museum Treatment In Montreal

A few weeks ago, I realized I hadn’t taken a proper vacation since joining TheGloss back in October. As much as I love New York City, it has a way of tiring you out and that’s as much as I’ll say about that. I figured it might be a cool opportunity to take a train to Montreal for the long weekend, as I’d never been to Canada, the exchange rate was painless and I heard Canadians are like people, but nice. I also figured this would be an excellent excuse to visit The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk, a career retrospective of haute couture’s most beloved enfant terrible, showing at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. See 'Inspiration Dior,' Christian Dior's Sprawling Museum Exhibit

Tuesday night saw the opening of “Inspiration Dior,” a sprawling, ambitious new exhibit at Moscow’s Pushkin Museum, in which over 12o couture looks from the house’s history are shown alongside the very “paintings and photographs that have inspired its designers,” like Yves Saint Laurent, John Galliano and the man himself. Artists shown include Cezanne, Toulouse-Lautrec, Man Ray, Gustav Klimt, and more. WWD was there, along with the almost-eerily-flawless Natalia Vodianova and everyone else of huge influence in the fashion industry (like Mr. Arnault, of course). Here are the photos. More »
