Okay, we promise this is our last 2011 round-up (it is, after all, 2012). We’ve already sifted through the best red carpet looks of last year, its most controversial advertisements, the best and worst dressed and the most annoying… now we must celebrate all of its best fashion models. This year saw Karlie Kloss shoot for the title of supermodel, Crystal Renn land her first (and much-deserved) Vogue cover, the startling debut of Saskia de Brauw, the rise of Arizona Muse, the continuing reign of Freja Beha Erichsen and the all-out domination of Andrej Pejic. So, here’s a weird one: we were so distracted by the spectacular runway set and the exceptionally lovely clothes that we didn’t notice a bizarre little detail at Chanel… Subtly affixed to the otherwise pristine faces on the runway were little pearls, below lips and on noses, along the ears and at the eyebrow. Like piercings. Or moles…? More

Elizabeth Olsen, the littlest Olsen, has caused quite a stir on the festival circuit with her reportedly game changing performance in that movie with the relentlessly alliterative title, Martha Marcy May Marlene. Pop Magazine is pretty well known for getting artsy with its covers. So it makes sense that for their twelve cover extravaganza this September, the good folks at Pop would want to get at least one bona fide artist involved. The artist they chose was Marina Abramovic, whose insane stunts and unflinching creative sincerity have made her one of the best known artists of her generation. Karl Lagerfeld loves making short films in support of his various fashion endeavors. The following is one he made for the Chanel Resort 2012 collection, starring supes like Chanel-face Freja Beha, Bianca Balti and the amazing Kristen McMenamy, his muse the Lady Amanda Harlech, and a host of male supers too: Brad Kroenig, Mark Vanderloo and (of course) Baptiste Giabiconi.
