Well, it’s campaign time, and obviously that means that it’s time to pick a group of people that we would like to keep basic civil rights away from and make them the centerpiece of fight ads. Amirite? More

Nevada state law prohibits same sex marriage, but it does allow for domestic partnerships which it specifies grants them “the same rights, protections and benefits” of spouses. So when Brittney Leon and Terri-Ann Simonelli, a lesbian couple who hold a certificate of domestic partnership from Nevada State, went to Spring Valley Hospital because of Leon’s pregnancy complications, they assumed they would have the same rights as a married couple in regards to medical care and decisions. Not so. More
Did you know it was Chick-Fil-A appreciation day yesterday? It was. My reaction was “why would they celebrate this now, when Intolerance day is so soon? It would be like having “sweetheart day” on February 13th.” No. Sorry. Joking. Intolerance day is not a real holiday, although I’m sure Hallmark is on it. But apparently people are coming out in droves to support Chick-fil-A. While I love (love) Chick-fil-A’s food and would, honestly, probably eat some nuggets if they were handed to me, I don’t love their outlook on homosexuality, and would prefer not to patronize a chain that opposes gay marriage so adamantly. So, I was curious if there were any people who supported it for reasons other than “they really oppose gay marriage.” Here are some tweets where people explain their views: More

A lot of the people currently trying to legislate the kinds of sex other people are allowed to have claim to base their beliefs on a strict, literalist interpretation of the Bible. Which begs the question: have they read the thing? The Old Testament in particular is full of all sorts of fucked up shit that I doubt many of these people would be okay with: sex slavery, captive virgins, incest, the list goes on! And when Jesus comes along in the New Testament, he doesn’t bother to condemn any of it. I’m not saying the Bible isn’t an important document, but as a prescription for how we should conduct our sex lives, it leaves much to be desired. Here are seven effed up things the Bible says are totally okie dokie. More
