Being homeless is so hot right now! I mean, why else would everybody be doing it? You get to wear cool shabby clothes, have a ton of fun with layers, and go all Eat Pray Love by paring down your earthly possessions to only what can fit in a shopping cart. It’s not like it’s totally scary and shitty to be homeless, or like it’s something that happens to people very much against their will. It’s basically like going to a giant street party that never ends. More

I know, I know. I’m supposed to be really excited that Vogue didn’t use Photoshop and ran a completely “unvarnished, unadulterated, pure” photo shoot from Peter Lindbergh. I promise, I really do appreciate it when a magazine chooses to forgo all the crazy retouching and curve-smoothing (or eliminating) that normally happens in mags.
But does anyone else feel like all this gratuitous nudity is a little like when plus-size models are constantly photographed without their clothes on? More
Fashion designers are often guilty of producing womenswear that looks strikingly beautiful in editorials but is completely unwearable for most of the population (I’d say “all” if maniacs like Daphne Guinness and Anna Dello Russo didn’t exist). Along those lines, we’ve got a pervasive new trend emerging in the glossies: lace masks. They recently flooded the Fall 2011 couture runway at Chanel (above), then obscured Carine Roitfeld’S face in that first shot from Riccardo Tisci’s Visionaire, then hit Claudia Schiffer’s German Vogue cover, and now Katie Holmes’ Spanish Vogue editorial… Here’s those recent twists on the mini-trend and many other previous examples.
