Maybe some of us will live to see the day when the fashion industry fully embraces ethnic diversity and it’s no longer a BFD to see a non-white model in a big campaign. More
Remember how designers once resisted Kim Kardashian like the Plague because she always used to make $8000 outfits look cheap and ill-fitting? There was even a time when they refused to loan clothes to any editorial associated with the infamous reality TV star. Boy, how things have changed! More
Now that baby North West is out in the world (and wearing Givenchy burp rags and Alexander Wang leather track pants), the full scale media assault to remind us How Kim’s Losing The Weight has begun. Though we’ve already seen Kim Kardashian‘s post! baby! body! while she was out! and! about! in LA a few weeks ago, we’re still a few months off seeing Kim’s Stunning Weightloss! splashed across US Weekly covers and the accompanying pages of sample recipes from her fake diet. They did a remake of Carrie–no, unfortunately we still have to wait for a screen adaptation of the horror classic’s infamously dreadful musical (we’d settle for a novelization of that, though). The new version stars Julianne Moore, Chloë Grace Moretz and probably some high school aged people also. We love gritty reboots of things, so we hope it’s a gritty reboot.
Anyway, here’s what they wore on the red carpet at last night’s premiere in LA. More
Fashion Month is drawing to a close, which means we’ve seen plenty of trends, much ridiculous street style, lots of famous people–you know, the usual Fashion Month works. By now we’ve had enough time to sift through the thousands of photos to bring you a selection of some very amazing (but often completely crazy) jewelry as seen on the runways in New York, London, Milan and Paris. Here are the biggest and boldest necklaces, bracelets, cuffs and, uh, headgear from Fashion Month–”statement jewelry” is putting it lightly. More
Lily Collins is relatively new as far as red carpet fixtures go, but she’s already established herself as a “risk taker,” someone who is “fashion forward,” and a little “daring.” We’re not always sure what people mean when they use … More
Milan Fashion Week is drawing to a close–which means the next round of Spring 2014 collections are around the corner in Paris. Here’s what the industry–Anna Wintour, Anna Dello Russo, Carine Roitfeld, Emmanuelle Alt–wore, along with the front row’s fanciest–Cate Blanchett, Freida Pinto, Blake Lively, Amber Heard–and even a few supermodels (Kate Moss, Karolina Kurkova, Bianca Balti). More
Cate Blanchett is an extremely talented, intelligent woman. ..The Gloss, however, is a fashion and beauty site, which means we have to focus on a very specific aspect of Blanchett’s career–primarily, what she wears on the red carpet. Occasionally, we’re … More
We supposed it started with the Met Gala. Then that L’Officiel cover with Kane West where the couple appeared to be having sex. Now, Kim Kardashian‘s weird, inexplicably effective circling of high fashion’s periphery has brought her to the cover of CR Fashion Book, the fancy collectable high fashion bible from Carine Roitfeld. If this isn’t a sign of
the fashion industry’s shameful lack of originality Kim’s unexpected versatility, nothing is. More
The CFDA Awards went down last night and the big winners were Proenza Schouler (womenswear designer of the year), Phillip Lim (accessories designer of the year) and Suno (Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in Womenswear). Oh, and everyone who’s famous for their red carpet presence showed up too–Jessica Chastain, Rooney Mara, Kerry Washington and a whole slew of models.
Here’s what the very stylish and the very victimized wore to the so-called Oscars of fashion.
Though you may have missed it under all the Arrested Devlopment craziness, Michael Douglas‘ Liberace biopic Behind the Candleabra premiered this weekend, too. Which, as far as we’re concerned, means one thing: a shopping guide with shitloads of glitter, piano prints, statement jewels, pussybows and capes. More
Amanda Seyfried plays a mysterious stranger in her new spot for Givenchy’s ‘Very Irrésistible’ perfume. Click through to watch. More
Talk about burying the lede. As a follow up to its Met Ball coverage, Women’s Wear Daily has a series of soundbites from Ricardo Tisci of Givenchy up on its site today. He talks about how pleased he was with how all his looks turned out (including Beyonce‘s, oy), but the interesting part doesn’t come until the end, when he discusses Kim Kardashian. (No, I never thought I would type that sentence.) More
It’s time, everyone. The 2013 Met Gala–or, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala, if you’re nasty–is upon us. While we have really, really mixed feelings about this year’s theme–Punk: Chaos to Couture–and we know most of the attendees are nervous about committing (despite our helpful styling suggestions!) this is still the biggest red carpet event of the year. Expect one or two unforgettable looks, lots of playing it safe, some real style, some real glamour and, hopefully, a whole lot of beautiful disasters.
So, per usual, we’ll be updating live throughout the red carpet. Come back and refresh often–expect new looks here every few minutes!
Let’s do this. More
