Dr. Martens Launches A Clothing Line

The ’90s were everywhere at Fall 2011 NYFW, with plaid shirts (tied at the waist, even), square necks and chunky black platforms. It seems only natural, then, that venerable workboot brand Dr. Martens (synonmous with both ’90s grunge and ’70s punk) has announced the launch of its clothing line. Nicholas K’s Fall 2011 collection showed at Lincoln Center yesterday morning around 9:30 and the clothes were all urban warrior and ’90s grunge: flannel shirts knotted around the waist, a pallette of camo greens, tartan and khaki, and lots of little downtown tough flourishes like leather, face-obscuringly high collars and drop crotches. The year was 1993 — the venue, the Boston Garden. A 13-year-old girl clad in a flannel shirt and Doc Martens stood excitedly on the arena’s floor surrounded by thousands of similarly attired Massholes, anxiously awaiting her favorite rock star to hit the stage for her first-ever concert.

That 13-year-old was me, folks, and that concert was Aerosmith. They were touring for “Get a Grip,” and they were fucking awesome.
