Maybe I’m not a crazy handbag lady but, to me, a purse serves a practical purpose. It has to hold all the things I need on a daily basis, otherwise I’m stuck with a bag on one arm and a tote on the other. In this way, tiny bags, bags in delicate materials, bags without interior pockets, bags without multiple methods of handling seem like more trouble than they’re worth. Because of this, I’m a big fan of the practical, durable, roomy satchel style. And, since you can’t walk into a boutique without seeing a dozen PS1s in as many different sizes and colors, now’s the time. Here are some good choices at a multitude of price points. More
Maybe a chunky skin bracelet isn’t ideal for Spring, but guess what? Doesn’t feel like Spring yet. And, maybe you’re in California where they don’t have seasons. Whatever the case may be, a cuff is an excellent way of toughening up a girly dress. Or just making biker boots and leather pants extra tough. I don’t know. They’re cool, okay? More
Yesterday we brought you the news that Brooklyn-based label Hayden-Harnett will again team up with Walt Disney Signature on a collection of handbags and accessories inspired by the latest Pirates of the Caribbean installment, On Stranger Tides. Today, we’re bringing you the first look at the complete collection, which will be available in May. Check out this exclusive slideshow of all the swashbuckling handbags, cuffs, wallets and scarves. Beloved Brooklyn-based handbags and accessories label Hayden-Harnett has already produced two fantastic collaborations with Walt Disney Signature: Fantasia and Tron. But the HH team–Toni Hacker and Benjamin Harnett–told TheGloss exclusively what project they’ll be re-interpreting next: the latest Pirates of the Caribbean installment, On Stranger Tides. Here’s the first peak at the collection anywhere, with another image (of one of the amazing scarves!) after the jump. More
We’ve already discussed the ubiquity of printed pants on the all 2011 runways, but since Spring is the actual season to focus on right now, we figured we’d try to incorporate those prints into our wardrobe in a less potentially disastrous way: on our arms. For those a bit hesitant to don a loud, eye-catching print, handbags, clutches and backpacks offer that little shock of color without making you look like a circus clown. Here’s 18 we liked in a variety of styles and pricepoints that will jolt your wardrobe for Spring. More
Hayden-Harnett let me creep on their new collaboration with Disney Signature, inspired by the classic animated film, Fantasia. Here’s photographic evidence of my encounter with the collection’s spectacular handbags, and maybe an accessory or Tron piece or two… More
Last week TheGloss had the pleasure of crashing Hayden-Harnett’s north Brooklyn store/workshop as they geared up for their huge KAPOW sale (the last day of which is today!) while having just launched their latest collection, a line of bags and accessories inspired by Disney’s Fantasia. We chatted with them about the film, the collection, celeb designers, and a certain medieval garment.

As you know, Disney Signature has collaborated with Brooklyn-based fine goods purveyors Hayden-Harnett–known for their indispensable bags and unique accessories–on a collection of items inspired by the classic animated film Fantasia (and Tron: Legacy, for that matter). One of the many cool pieces is the Cathedral cuff, at left. …But, pst! What you may not know: More
Brooklyn-based handbag (and general fine goods) wizards Hayden-Harnett have really been scratching our nostalgia itch lately: first with their sleek Tron: Legacy offerings and now with a capsule collection inspired by one of the best (and most charmingly sinister) animated films ever, Fantasia. …Every piece is unsurprisingly cool (like this righteous cuff) but today’s More
Disney is celebrating the upcoming release of TRON: Legacy by commissioning some designers to create a lavish TRON-inspired collection of gadgets, apparel and accessories. This is funny for a couple reasons: 1) probably no one loves TRON enough to dress in TRON-inspired garb on any day excepting Halloween, 2) the only people I know who love TRON enough to even consider buying this stuff are nerds and, historically, nerds–especially science fiction nerds–wouldn’t drop $500 on fine leather handbags. But no matter! Up ahead is a slide show of the most baffling pieces birthed by the Disney collaboration. More
As I’ve mentioned more than a few times (and I should probably stop), I love swag. Especially a swag bag. So I’m delighted with the sweet, Hayden-Harnett “Friends of Al” canvas tote ($55) I received at a Bag Trends‘ soiree. Perhaps the eco-friendly … More
