Newest Saint Laurent Campaign Has Most Surprising Stars Yet

Hedi Slimane came to Yves Saint Laurent and absolutely cleaned house–first, by dropping the Yves and changing up the rest of the logo, then revamping the aesthetic by recycling a bunch of old ideas like boho and grunge, charging an arm and a leg for babydoll dresses and sequined jackets, and slathering it all with an entirely undeserved veneer of cool by hiring non-fashion people to be in the campaigns. Also, Marilyn Manson. More »

From Juice Fasts To Ice Cream Every Day: 10 Fashion Designers Share Their Diets

From Juice Fasts To Ice Cream Every Day: 10 Fashion Designers Share Their Diets

This morning, we were surprised to learn that beloved Italian designer Valentino Garavani follows a stunningly strict diet–without going too deep into it, the regimen involves “no sugar, no milk, no dairy except goat cheese, no gluten pasta, Bio Rice, no meat, some fish (not the ones with mercury), vegetables, no potatoes, no bread except rice crackers or grissini, one glass of red wine, sugarless sherbet, all sweets made with almond milk and xylitol sweetener, and one coffee a day.” So, basically hell.

Still, we were surprised that designers eat so strict when their bodies aren’t the primary focus of the industry’s scrutiny (well, not as much). This got us thinking: is Valentino unusual? Or extreme? We researched 10 designer diets to determine the answer. More »

Red Carpet: Miley Cyrus Tries Real Hard At The Teen Choice Awards

Red Carpet: Miley Cyrus Tries Real Hard At The Teen Choice Awards

While we’re pretty ambivalent about Miley in general–we admired her in Marc Jacobs at the Met Gala, we are pleasantly surprised when she lands risky red carpet looks, we hate when she invokes Trayvon Martin to lament her plight as a famous person, when she high fives herself publicly, when she brags about being rich on social media. But we’re really ready for this whole punk rawk cosplay she’s adopted to end. She does know Billy Ray Cyrus is her dad, right? More »

Heroin Chic Is Back!

Heroin Chic Is Back!

Hedi Slimane never met a tired idea he didn’t like–sure, we were surprised when he changed YSL’s name to Saint Laurent Paris–but he’s yet to send a single new concept down the Saint Laurent runway. Goth boho? Grunge? The campaigns have been similarly reliant on the appeal of other people (“cool, alt musicians”). Last of all, he’s taken to pricing things with a goddamn roulette wheel.

Naturally, the fashion world salivates over his every move. More »

Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz On Hedi Slimane: ‘We Just Have to Give Him Time to Really Build a Story’

Lanvin's Alber Elbaz On Hedi Slimane: âWe Just Have to Give Him Time to Really Build a Storyâ

Lanvin creative director, design collaboration superstar and all-around loveable fashion gnome Alber Elbaz did time at the British Vogue Festival this weekend–and Simon Burstein, CEO of London luxury boutique Browns, saw fit to ask Elbaz what he thought of Hedi Slimane‘s critically-derided, commercially viable collections for the newly revamped house of Saint Laurent.

Elbaz, ever the diplomat, replied… More »

Marilyn Manson, Courtney Love, Kim Gordon And Ariel Pink (As Kurt?) Star In Saint Laurent’s ’90s-tastic New Campaign

Marilyn Manson, Courtney Love, Kim Gordon And Ariel Pink (As Kurt?) Star In Saint Laurent's '90s-tastic New Campaign

When I saw the first glimpse of Yves Saint Laurent‘s ’90-centric new campaign featuring one Marilyn Manson last week, I got very, very excited. This was because I love ’90s alt-rock in the deepest and most reptilian part of my brain; it’s all that will be left in my head when I’m old and senile. Now, the entire campaign has been released, and it doesn’t disappoint, as Manson is joined by fellow ’90s icons Courtney Love, Kim Gordon and Kurt Cobain Ariel Pink? More »

Guess Which (Female!) Model Landed The Saint Laurent Paris Men’s Campaign?

Guess Which (Female!) Model Landed The Saint Laurent Paris Men's Campaign?

Last week, we met Casey Legler, a striking female artist working as a male model (she’s even on the men’s board at Ford). We were so very excited to encounter a female trailblazer of this sort, after a few seasons dominated by Andrej Pejic. Apparently, though, we spoke too soon, because right out of the gate this week comes the brand new Spring 2013 Saint Laurent Paris menswear campaign, starring one of our favorite models, Saskia de Brauw… who happens to be a very beautiful woman.
