In addition to making some incredibly catchy hip-hop, she’s also become something of a designer clothes horse, and with none of the problematic contradictions that come along with M.I.A.’s radical politics. Rye Rye and her crew of backup dancers just wanna have fun!

It’s no surprise, then, that designer Prabal Gurung wanted to collaborate with the Baltimore MC on the video for her single “New Thing.” “It was just so fantabulous,” Rye told Spinner. “I never really wear things like that, so it made me feel so on top of the world — sexy but cool because I was still dancing in the heels!” Indeed.
