I used to think that the prospect of a world full of positive body image was hopeless, but my six months here have exposed me to other voices–voices that aren’t shouting “you aren’t good enough.” More

Last night saw the 2013 BET Awards–featuring a host entertainers in a wide variety of looks. Strangely, the prevailing colors of the night were black and white (by far), with attendees largely rejecting Spring palettes and prints in favor of leather and lace and very strappy shoes. Nicki Minaj, Ciara, Janelle Monae, Brandy, Ashanti (!) and way more ahead… More
The 2013 Grammy Awards took place last night and few Grammys ceremonies have ever presented us with so many genuinely god awful dresses. While looking through our colleague Samantha’s fantastic live coverage of the red carpet last night, we realized two things: 1) Sam is a lot more generous than us and 2) there’s no fucking way anyone can make a reasonable best dressed list out of this caravan of nightmares.
So, we decided to reframe our usual awards ceremony post-mortem best dressed list as, simply, The Least Offensive Dressed. Let’s try our best. More
I mean, People magazine is dumb with their little list. They are dumb, and they are consistently wrong, and this premise was already covered very effectively in The B in Apt 23 so I don’t think I need to say much more. At TheGloss we really felt we could do this better, unfortunately, we disagreed about pretty much everything, so we’re just going to toss some stuff at you. Also, I’m not very good at graffiti doodles, so, while I see where I was going with the devil horns on Channing Tatum, I’m not so sure about the angel wings.
We have a lot of different people, because unlike People, we accept all kinds. Also, I’m not going to tell you which writers came up with which people, because, hive mind. More
The holidays are a time for excessive eating, arguing with in-laws and round-ups of our favorite things worn by famous people over the past year. Today, we’re focusing on an oft-neglected but crucially important part of a red carpet look: the shoes, the clutches, and (of course) the crazy headpieces that all come together and occasionally make for pretty unforgettable details. W Magazine did a story on the relationship between designers and their musical muses. With some, the connection is obvious: Florence Welch was recently named the face of Gucci so she’s a natural fit to inspire Gucci creative director Frida Giannini. With others, it’s more unclear (what about flower child Esperanza Spalding inspires minimalist Francisco Costa?*). Check out the pairings in the gallery. Also: poor Baptise Giabiconi!! More

It’s red carpet fashion. Not only that, it’s red carpet fashion at the Grammys. So. By “Best Dressed” we really mean “The Most Not Immediately Hideous Or Outrageously Boring.” Let’s see what we can do. More

Leighton Meester showed up to the Gotham Awards in a Thom Browne suit and honestly, she killed it. She looked sexy and effortless and cool. She softened the menswear-inspired outfit with feminine make-up, flowy hair and Faragamo heels, which might be why it worked like gang busters. I tend to think women in suits look great. Of course, there are the occasional failures (lots of those ahead) but when it works, does it ever work. More
Last week, we complained about certain celebrities who dominate magazine covers despite their lack of relevancy. So, since we’ve already said who we don’t want on magazine covers, here’s a list of who we would like to see. What’s the difference? It’s not only who is current and relevant – it’s about getting away from a sea of similar-looking white, blonde, thin women and embracing a whole range of definitions of the word beauty. More
