It’s pouring in New York today–luckily, we were walking to work clomping through puddles with impunity, thanks to our excellent Tretorn ‘Kelly’ boots. Only after conquering many puddles did we realize that a lot of you may be mulling rain boot options right this very moment. So, we decided to put together this handy guide to cute/versatile/practical and cheap rain boots for those rainy weeks of Spring when the weather is figuring out what it wants to be.
Ahead, we have selected 12 cute rain boots under $100 (though 11 of them are under $70). More
These absurdly popular boots are getting a bit of a makeover so hipsters can now be 6 inches taller and make a remarkable amount of noise hobbling down the aisle! More
Last week we brought you a sneaker wedges Shopping Guide… but we secretly hoped you’d be pissed because they are hideous. This week we’re bringing you also-ridiculous wedge shoes but no sneakers in sight–instead, they are a riot of textures, colors and weirdness in the sub-$150 category. For those of you (like us) who tend to have a restrained aesthetic, sometimes a really oddball statement shoe can make an outfit look more deliberate.
Or… you know, just plain ridiculous. Whatever. Have fun. More
So we were outside TheGloss‘ Manhattan office last week and spotted a girl in Dr Martens (which we actively look for, apparently, because we’re still a friendless goth teenager). Upon looking a little closer, we realized they were actually a Dr Martens’ version of chelsea boots, which we had never seen and found kind of surprising. The short, suctioned ankle boot was a staple of the mod scene and enjoys a resurgence about every ten years–also! when spray-painted glossy white, they’re the unofficial shoe of the Stormtroopers in Star Wars–so we decided now would be a good time to go looking for a pair. While window shopping over the weekend, we then noticed approximately 60,000* other girls wearing Chelsea boots. …Which means we have an exploding trend on our hands. Moreover, an “It” shoe that’s walkable and practical is about the only kind we can get behind. So, without further ado… More
Resort 2011 broadcast a lot of neon: the glowing accessories trend logged major runway time at Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Stella McCartney, Proenza Schouler and more. The thing about neon is that it presents a problem (ugliness) if there’s too much, but it’s a perfect eye-popping accessory or simple piece–shorts or a tee– if your palette is otherwise muted. Here’s a few easy neon items to jolt your warm-weather look. More
Earlier today, we offered up some suggestions for how to show school spirit on the 4th of July. Now, we’re letting you know what to avoid (flag leggings, shoes and, yes, thongs) along with a few famous ladies who took their press-baiting faux-patriotism to ridiculous levels. More
It’s getting hot! It’s getting so unbearably hot that one can no longer just throw on a dress, black tights and a cool jacket for every occasion. …One has to think a little more critically. So, here’s our picks for excellent summer activites: cocktail parties, BBQs, mini golf and picnic dates (assuming people still do that). More
Blue Velvet (the movie) stresses me out. But the material? It looks great on shoes, dresses, bags, whatever. Here are some totally non-upsetting options.
We’re now focusing on shopping guides that augment your resentment of the current weather. E.g., it is cold, rainy, gray and oppressive outside and we would like you to imagine yourself in a sundress and eye-catching printed espadrilles, skin all aglow as you glome roasted meats/vegetables. Dream big, girls: here’s a whole lot of shoes for better weather, from flats to wedges and towering heels. More
As I was traipsing around Manhattan on a very dismal lunchbreak, it occurred to me that a gallery of excellent rain boots might have been more prudent for the day’s shopping guide. I considered sitting on this gallery of nude shoes–pumps, wedges, sandals, flats–and posting it on a day when one might actually consider the perfect nude shoe for an outdoor cocktail party or some sort of gathering that occurs in the sun. But… that’s the way the cookie crumbles, I guess. More
