About a year ago, we rounded up “10 fashion trends that need to die right now”--and arguably our biggest vendetta was against then-hugely popular neon (well, and fucking sneaker wedges). Since then, the look has definitely lost its ubiquity on the streets–now, we see the occasional Fluro and that’s about it.
…Maybe because it’s not everywhere anymore, tiring eyeballs wherever it goes, we’ve softened a bit on our stance. Here are 12 red carpet looks that make a surprisingly compelling argument for not banning the shades outright.
Also. Some of the looks here are more neon than others. This was hard. More
This week, fashion types were overjoyed to learn that the great Nicolas Ghesquière had finally landed at someplace deserving of his phenomenal talent: Louis Vuitton.
In honor of his new spot, here are 15 of his greatest looks from the red carpet during his 15 glorious years at the house of Balenciaga. More
They did a remake of Carrie–no, unfortunately we still have to wait for a screen adaptation of the horror classic’s infamously dreadful musical (we’d settle for a novelization of that, though). The new version stars Julianne Moore, Chloë Grace Moretz and probably some high school aged people also. We love gritty reboots of things, so we hope it’s a gritty reboot.
Anyway, here’s what they wore on the red carpet at last night’s premiere in LA. More
She is so pretty it’s ridiculous. More
As you may know, Julianne Moore recently committed a grievous fashion offense when she allowed herself to be photographed on the Cannes red carpet with her toes hanging off the sides of her shoes. The horror, the horror! More
I’ve always admired Julianne Moore. She always sounds thoughtful, she’s a great actress, and she has an awesome side career as a children’s book author. She’s also not afraid to talk about feminism. Hence, I was not too surprised when I saw a quote from her latest magazine profile where she thoughtfully discusses the different ways interviewers approach male and female subjects. More
The 2013 Cannes Film Festival began yesterday–kicking off with Baz Luhrmann‘s take on The Great Gatsby. Here is the celebrity-laden red carpet, featuring the film’s stars, various fellow A-listers, a slew of fancy Euro-celebs and at least one Phoebe Price (obviously). More
Last night, the SAG Awards took place. We brought all the looks from the red carpet, from the pre-party circuit, we brought you the ten best dressed along with the best and worst beauty. Now, unfortunately, it’s time for the ten worst dressed.
Ahead, the frumpiest, silliest, most over-styled and occasionally hideous looks from the 2013 SAG Awards.. More
The Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards if you’re nasty) are nigh. If you like actors congratulating actors for overcoming a bunch of stuff and being actors, then the SAG Awards are for you. And we, The Gloss, are bringing you the red carpet looks in real time(-ish).
As we did with the Golden Globes, we’ll be updating this post with all the pretty, pretty dresses (and hopefully lots of ugly ones) over the next couple hours. More
The 70th annual Golden Globe Awards took place last night and hopefully you enjoyed our knee jerk reactions to the (mostly boring) red carpet. Unfortunately, there weren’t a lot of stand out looks last night, so consider this best dressed list… graded on a curve.
Still, red carpet reliables like Julianne Moore and Anne Hathaway looked grand, while surprise turns from Olivia Munn, Lucy Liu and Stacy Keibler kept things interesting.
…Mildly, at least. More
The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards are nigh. Yes, Hollywood’s second biggest dog and pony show is coming to your living room at 8:00 PM eastern standard time and, starting now, The Gloss will be your one stop shop for the much-scrutinized Golden Globe Awards red carpet. We’ll be updating this post with all the pretty, pretty dresses (and hopefully lots of ugly ones to keep it interesting) over the next couple hours. More
The Emmys, right guys? Oh god, so boring. Not a lot of really memorable dresses either. So… here’s the best we could do for a best dressed list. Remember: we’re grading on a curve here. Julianne Moore, Tina Fey, Kristen Wiig, Claire Danes and a few surprises ahead… More
Although we already nominated Tom Hanks‘ moustache as our favorite thing about last night’s excruciatingly boring Primetime Emmy Awards, we think Julianne Moore deserves a nod for most awesome acceptance speech. More
Don’t let that headline fool you: the 2012 Critics’ Choice Awards didn’t really provide a meaningful distinction between “best” and “worst.” For the most part, dresses were off, or just mediocre (despite the hotness that is Christina Hendricks and Julianne Moore). Red carpet looks from Ginnifer Goodwin, Zooey Deschanel, Lucy Liu and more. More
