Earlier this week, Lily Collins stopped by the premiere of her new movie, The Mortal Instruments, wearing yet another cutout dress. Having covered so many examples of the remarkably banal trend, we finally just got sick of it all and declared them dumb. Or at least, frequently in very poor taste–they’re extremely popular with unapologetic fameballs for a reason.
Thus, we were inspired to wrangle up a collection of our least favorites, from recent disasters to some classic all-time worsts. Enjoy? More
If you have not yet heard Kelly Rowland‘s single “Dirty Laundry,” you should do so as soon as possible. I mean, you can watch the video below first, but you should read along the lyrics because they’re painfully beautiful. “Dirty Laundry” … More
Anyone familiar with The Gloss‘ fashion coverage knows our opinion of music awards show red carpets: they are uniformly the worst.
…The thing about last night’s 2013 Billboard Music Awards? They were a different dimension of the worst. Every look was a jumble of ill-conceived ideas and bad planning.
Get ready for a few glorious pages of horrible to sublimely ridiculous red carpet moments, all in one place. Happy Monday! More
Last night, Elle celebrated Women in Music with a big party at the Edison Ballroom in New York City. Attendees included famous women in music along with famous women in fashion and then some not terribly famous women. Here’s what they wore. More
As we’ve mentioned, last night’s Oscars red carpet was surprisingly solid (mostly interesting across the board, with a mostly clear best dressed and worst dressed list). That said, there were some very good choices in the beauty department.
And some very, very bad ones. More
Last night’s Oscars ceremony was perhaps the longest in history. Lucky for us, though, the red carpet was surprisingly interesting–with clear winners, obvious losers and a lot of unusual looks and light risks in between.
Sadly, now comes the most dickish part of our job: picking the Oscars worst dressed list. Make sure to tell us how we are dumb and wrong (and mean!) in the comments. More
The performance involved lots of fire–coming out of the stage, out of the front of a guitar, out of the back of a guitar–sweating, and attitude, on a stage flanked by two truly, impressively heinous profile portraits (?) of Beyonce (?). If you love occasional singing along to a pre-recorded backing track and medleys, then you probably loved it. More

As a rule, I think women look fantastic in suits. With a bit of confidence (and, frankly, a bit of height) women can really stand out in trousers and a jacket. Unfortunately, we can’t all be Leighton or Natalia. Sometimes we fail. And when we do, we fail spectacularly.
Fair warning: fer here looked “good” in the traditional(/actual?) sense. However, with music events, a certain amount of theatrics are simply expected and thus a few performers are largely exempt from criticism (xoxo, Nicki Minaj). Anyway, kind of a bell curve ahead. More
Kelly, I think ’7os-era Diana Ross was awesome, too, but this impression you’re attempting is not working. For one thing, the hair is all frizz. For another, you have a giant gap between your boobs. You can totally pull off … More
