It’s Springtime! That means big changes to makeup routines: gone is the matte skin, the moody ’90s lip colors, the heavy mascara, the cat’s eyes. Instead, skin gets dewier, cheeks get highlighted, liner is going from black to electric blue and moss green and lips are getting real, real bold.
This is the second of a few Spring beauty features we’ve got planned for May–the first is here. Right now we’re focusing on that tried and true warm weather character: the statement-y Spring lip.
Spring 2013 runways from Jason Wu to Prada (that’s Kati Nescher on the Prada runway up there) showed a variety of bold lips in shades from saturated pinks to electric corals and bright reds. Don’t be afraid, though! While bold lipsticks can be intimidating, a minimal, fresh face and a bright lip is easy to wear and really flattering.
We have been testing LOTS of lipsticks and stains these past few weeks and ahead you’ll find some of our favorites from NARS, Tarte, MAC, Hourglass, Make Up For Ever, Tom Ford and more… More

Earlier this week, I asked you all to answer one simple question: would you rather see a makeup tutorial for Betty Draper or Megan Draper? Two Draper wives go in, one Draper wife comes out. But who will it be?
Drumroll, please… More

The Oscars happened this weekend and we’re going to spend all week picking up the pieces. After furiously parsing the red carpet yesterday, we’ve decided to try our hand at replicating the best beauty looks–namely, the perfect faces of Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Kerry Washington, Jennifer Lawrence, Salma Hayek and more. Wish us luck! More
If you’ve been paying much attention to the fashion press lately, you probably know all about oxblood. The dark, wine-ish shade of red has been dominating runways for a season or two now, at Gucci, YSL, Valentino, Alexander Wang, Alexander McQueen, Acne, Miu Miu and more (it’s also all over red carpets, especially as beauty). For those of you who can’t go out and drop a few grand on a trend-straddling McQueen frock coat, though, we’ve got a few more affordable options (and some aspirational pieces to oogle too). More
So we’ve reached August. That means two things: 1) mounting dry cleaning bills because there is sunscreen smeared on everything we own and 2) accumulating bug bites. Oh, it also means that–depending on where you are–it’s either really hot and dry or really, really hot and humid. Therefore, it may be time to ramp up your skincare regime (and tone down your makeup). Show your face a little love with these gentle, exfoliating, or hydrating skin products and a few indispensable summer beauty tools. We can’t help the bug bites, though. More
The holidays are all about friends, family and… spending money like water. No matter how hard you try, you’re always astonished/horrified by the amount of money you burn this time of year. Lucky, cosmetics offer an easy out–many of the most opulent designer lipsticks, for example, hover around $40. If you plan on gifting some loved ones, here’s a guide with lots of options (in lots of universally flattering shades) but really, you should just be gifting yourself something nice before the money runs out. Good luck! More
Holy shit it’s Fall. You know what that means? Out with the bronzers, the towering SPFs, the NARS Orgasm Illuminator… in with a face that–judging from the Fall 2011 runways–actually just looks like a paler version of the Spring face: bold lips, fresh skin, defined brows…? Well, there’s definitely something wearable for every skintone, so that’s a start. Anyway. TheGloss has handpicked some of Fall 2011′s major beauty trends and assembled the following guide, which features a bunch of really solid beauty buys, from drugstores and beyond. More
