This was originally supposed to be Makeup Inspired By: Frosty The Snowman, but upon realizing I looked like the evil snowman in Jack Frost, I decided to switch gears and do a look inspired by the legend of Jack Frost.
I would never head out and about on the town with this look unless I was attending a holiday costume party (note to friends: please start hosting these ASAP), regardless, I might as well have blue eyebrows every once-in-a-while. More
If you’re going to see The Hunger Games: Catching Fire this weekend, you might as well have a fun look to go with it. I don’t even really like the series, but I’m so obsessed with the makeup, I just had to do a tutorial on it. More
Excited for The CW’s new show Reign? It’s about Mary, Queen of Scots, and we are super excited to see it. So, in celebration of this show, I have put together my usual “Makeup Inspired By” tutorial with a sixteenth century twist. … More
Guys, I think I’m going to do one of those elegant, glamorous, “this was an excuse to wear fake fur and jewels” costumes this Halloween. I’m gonna be a walking cliche, also known as A 23-Year-Old Gal Wearing A Pseudo-Old Hollywood Costume. More
You saw this coming, didn’t you? If only I could turn back time… More
Much has been said about Lindsay Lohan in Bret Easton Ellis’ The Canyons. Despite a lot of hype, some obnoxious interviews and a pretty fantastic trailer, the film itself has received primarily awful reviews — even from the actors themselves. However, I plan on seeing it because, despite all her idiocy, irresponsibility and the tragedy that was Liz & Dick, I still want to like LiLo in films again.
Personally, I love her look in The Canyons. It’s got that dark, apathetic Los Angeles air to it that’s pervasive throughout all of Ellis’ books. So, here’s my attempt at recreating that look. More
Love longships, horned hats and all things beard- or braid-related? Or do you just happen to love Norse history? Either way, this Viking makeup tutorial is for you! More
When I was a kid, I used to love beetles and snails and all things colorful that crawled. Nowadays, I’m one of those people who becomes hilariously frantic when arthropods are anywhere near me, but I still love snails.
This week, I wanted to pay tribute to our lovely little friends who leave pretty trails behind with their slime. This was kind of a weird tutorial to do since it uses so many different shades, but I wanted to play up the blended, multi-hued nature of these guys, as well as the aforementioned slime trails.
Perhaps not Gail the Snail so much, though… More
When I was really young, I remember hearing Jiminy Cricket (or, rather, Cliff Edwards as Jiminy Cricket) sing “When You Wish About A Star” and becoming emotional almost instantaneously. Granted, this could be because I have been a moody, exaggerative human since dramatically refusing to let anybody besides my mother feed me as a toddler, but I think that it also just touched me deeply because it felt like hope in a song (that sounded dumber when I read it aloud, I am aware it is a silly statement).
So, if there were makeup inspired by my youthful optimism combined with fireworks and castles and weirdly expensive glowsticks, this would be it. More
I never thought doing “porno makeup” would be quite like this, but I think doing a book jacket is the best way to ease into my summer reading! Shall wel? More
As you may or may not know, the new Superman film, Man of Steel, comes out today. As a result, this week’s makeup tutorial is all about the caped, leotard-clad man himself! More
The weather is getting warmer and the sun is coming out (finally)! This means that all those pretty, bold lip colors you keep seeing pop up on your favorite beauty sites — which we are at the top of, amirite? — are finally going to be appropriate, as they work particularly well with the hues of spring and summer presently flooding the racks. I get the question, “How do I cover up my hangover with makeup?” probably once a week. Now, I have admittedly had a lot of hangovers in my life. I’ve always hung out with a lot of people who possessed the “work hard, party hard, pass out hard for like three days” mentality, I was in a fraternity in college and I just really loved appletinis for a minute or ten.
As a result of this and in honor of The Hangover Part III, my tutorial today will revolve around making yourself look more hungover (maybe you need to pretend to your frat bros that you weren’t just drinking Sprite last night, I don’t know), as well as how to cover the grossness up. More
Last week, we brought you the fun, grungy, hot makeup of the early nineties. Today, we are bringing something much, much worse to the table: multiple ugly trends from the 90s.
I’m talking Pamela Anderson lipliner, Baby Spice hair, metallic frosted shadow up to harsh-lined brows, unknowingly bad foundation lines, too much stick liner, so much bronzer and much, much more. Trying to figure out how to look like the worst version of your middle school self? Here it is, guys. There will be blood. Or, at the very least, glitter.
Internet, please don’t bring these back up when I run for city council, mmk? More
