A few days ago, we saw the first ad for the Alexander Wang Spring 2013 collection (above). It featured (the truly great, truly beautiful) Polish model Malgosia Bela and, strikingly, no clothing whatsoever. Why, we fashion bloggers wondered, would a fashion campaign feature no fashion? This was all starting to seem a little masturbatory for us, but then the rest of the campaign dropped and… it’s pretty great!
Steven Klein shot the set, in which Bela is styled (by Patti Wilson) like a futuristic warrior but also haunted cave woman? We don’t know. And, yes, there are clothes.

I know, I know: fashion photography is weird, models don’t always need to be smiling, and what seems unpleasant to one person is often beautiful to another. But I still can’t help thinking Miu Miu’s spring 2013 campaign looks like the least fun homoerotic all-girl sleepover I’ve ever had the pleasure of peeking in on. In it, big name models including Adriana Lima, Arizona Muse and Doutzen Kroes play weird bed games, stand around an empty table, and never, God forbid, make eye contact with one another. Cheer up, guys. You are about to get eaten out by your fellow supermodels while wearing several pounds of couture. More
Photographer/couple power duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin– won’t work with fashion’s favorite subjects: teen models. More
Last November, we pointed out that it’s weird when teenagers become supermodels. We were subsequently inspired to put together a list of 13 working models over the age of 30, from Karen Elson to Kristen McMenamy. Back then, the criteria was they had to have walked in a show, fronted a campaign or starred in an editorial for a major glossy within the last year. At the time, we endeavored to “ignore the more obvious still-working over-30 ladies (Naomi Campbell, Gisele Bundchen, Kate Moss) and instead showcase lower-profile but no less amazing women.” That’s still the case. There’s a bunch of reasons we love this new Stella McCartney campaign: besides the fact that it’s fresh, bright and pretty adorable (and that our beloved Mert & Marcus shot the images!) we’re absolutely loving that its two stars come from criminally underrepresented groups in the modeling world More
Chloe’s Spring 2011 campaign is here and it features flawless Norwegian Iselin Steiro and Polish supe Malgosia Bela, two radiant women at the top of their mannequin game. David Sims shot the campaign, which is subtle, natural and effortlessly chic, just like Chloe. Guido “The Master” Palau did hair with Diane Kendal on beauty detail. See a few more shots after the jump. More
