The Spring 2014 bridal collections have shown and the big surprise is… more nontraditional wedding dresses. We see this pretty regularly (dove gray, pale pink, mint green and the like), but it’s still always a surprise how polarizing it is. We’re of the opinion that no woman should feel required to wear a long white dress (or, uh, get married, for that matter) but the sight of a nonwhite gown sends others into irrational frenzy.
So, for those of you interested in/horrified by nonwhite gowns or other variously nontraditional wedding dresses, here are the latest from the Spring runways, featuring Vera Wang, Marchesa, Monique Lhuillier and more. More
The 2013 Oscars are taking place tonight–which you probably know if you’re the sort of person who reads ladyblogs (even this one). We’ll be liveblogging our kneejerk reactions to all the fancy designer dresses in this very post, so don’t forget to refresh throughout the night.
Without further ado, we bring you every single look from this year’s Oscars red carpet… More
Last night, we brought you realtime updates of all the dresses at the 2013 SAG Awards. As you know now, it was a big night for jeweltones (no, seriously), black gowns with lots of embellishment and some daring hits of color. Below, our picks for the evening’s ten best dressed… More
The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards are nigh. Yes, Hollywood’s second biggest dog and pony show is coming to your living room at 8:00 PM eastern standard time and, starting now, The Gloss will be your one stop shop for the much-scrutinized Golden Globe Awards red carpet. We’ll be updating this post with all the pretty, pretty dresses (and hopefully lots of ugly ones to keep it interesting) over the next couple hours. More
The last Twilight installment is upon us (well, tomorrow)! That means an upkick in Kristen Stewart Robert Pattinson romance speculation, lots of sheer dresses and an end to this long dark period in human history. But rather than doing your average “X celebrity’s best red carpet looks” roundup that is typical on the eve of a big premiere–it would just be sheer lace dresses anyway–we decided to celebrate Stewart’s other trademark: the many Chucks, Vans and Nike lowtops she switches into after suffering a few feet of red carpet in towering heels. Let us begin: More

Here at TheGloss, we love making pointless generalizations about people based on arbitrary preference like their handbags and nail shapes. What you may not know is that there is a hard science behind this. Trust us. In this week’s Illustrated Guide, we’re focusing on fashion: what your favorite designer label says about you (and your soul, etc). Now, a quick clarifying point before we go any further: we don’t mean ladies who know Alessandra Facchinetti from Frida Giannini; we mean those who approach fashion in terms of logos, labels and status. For example, once we met a girl who said Alexander McQueen was her favorite designer and–delighted–we asked why. She said, “He’s just really fresh and fun.” That about sums it up. Let’s begin. More
Do you recognize this person? We almost didn’t! That’s former Gossip Girl Taylor Momsen attending last night’s Marchesa show, and when we first saw the image–accompanied by a reference to someone named “Taylor”–we thought, “Well, that would be Taylor Swift‘s notion of edgy.” …But no! It’s Momsen! More
“Dark and moody” go the unsurprising fall color trends at NYFW: covering the runways were muted shades of midnight, plum, and the reigning combination of black and blue. …But just when you thought it was all very bleak and Fall-appropriate… bright, fuck-off, electric reds came down the runway. Absolutely no one had his finger on this pulse better than Jason Wu, whose collection was almost exclusively shadowy shades of blue, wine and blinding red. Here are the colors to keep your eyes on for Fall 2012. More
It’s Love/Hate week at TheGloss, in which we explore all the ways Valentine’s Day makes us feel… wonderful or the opposite of that. Our sponsor for the week is the upcoming romantic drama The Vow, starring Rachel McAdams as a woman who loses all memory of the past five years and Channing Tatum as the husband who needs to remind her. And, because this is a fashion site, we thought we’d take a little trip down memory lane for some of McAdams’ very best moments on the red carpet. More
Isaac Mizrahi has judging duties on Project Runway‘s all-star season (alongside Marchesa‘s Georgina Chapman), but if you disagree with any of his calls: take it up with God. More
Queen of all superstars Madonna is doing lots of stuff to promote her new film W.E.–winning Golden Globes, doing other stuff–and here she is attending the premiere in New York City last night. …Not good. More
Let us be straight with you: no one looked great at last night’s People’s Choice Awards. There were two choices: the horribly dressed (we discuss them here) and then there was a cadre of mostly boring, middle-of-the-road, unremarkable looks from the usual suspects. The latter category is here. See many routine, obvious dresses on ladies like Miley Cyrus, Lea Michelle, Kristen Bell, Alyson Hannigan and more. More
