Red Carpet Rundown: The Best Dressed At The 2013 Emmys

Red Carpet Rundown: The Best Dressed At The 2013 Emmys

Wow, last night’s Emmys ceremony was a tricky red carpet to judge. By which we mean, looks for the most part were your typical awards show turf (big, bold and boring) but the rest of them were interesting in all the wrong ways (weird bodices, strange appliqués, super exaggerated flounces) (but we’ll get to that)–leaving us with a somewhat motley crew of occasionally very beautiful winners, some of which are a little odd. Let’s take a look. More »

21 Extremely Ugly Cutout Dresses

21 Extremely Ugly Cutout Dresses

Earlier this week, Lily Collins stopped by the premiere of her new movie, The Mortal Instruments, wearing yet another cutout dress. Having covered so many examples of the remarkably banal trend, we finally just got sick of it all and declared them dumb. Or at least, frequently in very poor taste–they’re extremely popular with unapologetic fameballs for a reason.

Thus, we were inspired to wrangle up a collection of our least favorites, from recent disasters to some classic all-time worsts. Enjoy? More »

White Gowns Apparently Just For Basic B*tches Now: 13 Nontraditional Wedding Dresses From The Spring 2014 Bridal Shows

White Gowns Apparently Just For Basic B*tches Now: 13 Nontraditional Wedding Dresses From The Spring 2014 Bridal Shows

The Spring 2014 bridal collections have shown and the big surprise is… more nontraditional wedding dresses. We see this pretty regularly (dove gray, pale pink, mint green and the like), but it’s still always a surprise how polarizing it is. We’re of the opinion that no woman should feel required to wear a long white dress (or, uh, get married, for that matter) but the sight of a nonwhite gown sends others into irrational frenzy.

So, for those of you interested in/horrified by nonwhite gowns or other variously nontraditional wedding dresses, here are the latest from the Spring runways, featuring Vera Wang, Marchesa, Monique Lhuillier and more. More »

Gallery: Kristen Stewart's Many Red Carpet Sneakers

The last Twilight installment is upon us (well, tomorrow)! That means an upkick in Kristen Stewart Robert Pattinson romance speculation, lots of sheer dresses and an end to this long dark period in human history. But rather than doing your average “X celebrity’s best red carpet looks” roundup that is typical on the eve of a big premiere–it would just be sheer lace dresses anyway–we decided to celebrate Stewart’s other trademark: the many Chucks, Vans and Nike lowtops she switches into after suffering a few feet of red carpet in towering heels. Let us begin: More »

Illustrated Guide: What Your Favorite Designer Label Says About You

Illustrated Guide: What Your Favorite Designer Label Says About You

Here at TheGloss, we love making pointless generalizations about people based on arbitrary preference like their handbags and nail shapes. What you may not know is that there is a hard science behind this. Trust us. In this week’s Illustrated Guide, we’re focusing on fashion: what your favorite designer label says about you (and your soul, etc). Now, a quick clarifying point before we go any further: we don’t mean ladies who know Alessandra Facchinetti from Frida Giannini; we mean those who approach fashion in terms of logos, labels and status. For example, once we met a girl who said Alexander McQueen was her favorite designer and–delighted–we asked why. She said, “He’s just really fresh and fun.” That about sums it up. Let’s begin. NYFW:The Major Fall Color Trends For 2012

NYFW:The Major Fall Color Trends For 2012

“Dark and moody” go the unsurprising fall color trends at NYFW: covering the runways were muted shades of midnight, plum, and the reigning combination of black and blue. …But just when you thought it was all very bleak and Fall-appropriate… bright, fuck-off, electric reds came down the runway. Absolutely no one had his finger on this pulse better than Jason Wu, whose collection was almost exclusively shadowy shades of blue, wine and blinding red. Here are the colors to keep your eyes on for Fall 2012. More »
