Ali Lohan is not just Lindsay Lohan‘s little sister (or Dina Lohan‘s taller meal ticket) (or Michael Lohan‘s, for that matter)–she is her own separate person. She is also still trying to make this modeling thing happen.
But! She’s trying a new approach. More
The Fall 2013 Givenchy show walked in Paris yesterday and, predictably, a shitload of famous people stopped by. Some glittery front row regulars (Kanye West, with girlfriend Kim Kardashian in tow, Amanda Seyfried, newly minted fashion darling Jessica Chastain, etc) and some industry big hitters (Carine Roitfeld, Anna Dello Russo) were all in attendance.
How many of them wore sunglasses at night? More
The other day, I was going about my usual routine (scrolling through Fashion Gone Rogue and waiting breathlessly for the next major news story about bath salts to break). Anyway, I came upon an editorial starring Magdalena Frackowiack as a sultry nun in Dansk. So I says to myself, “Wow! A skinny white girl as a sexy nun? This is the most groundbreaking thing I have ever seen. I wish fashion would appropriate religious imagery more often because it’s really thought-provoking and bursting with exciting new ideas!” And then my heart was broken when I remembered this isn’t even the first time Magdalena Frockowiack was in a sexy nun editorial (that would be Pop‘s Nun Head from back in 2008). And then I remembered this trope has been run into the ground so deeply that sexy nuns are growing like pale, skinny flowers in China. Get ready. More
Love magazine is making quite a splash with its August issue: rolling out a bunch of different covers, featuring established top models (Lara, Mariacarla), up-and-comers (Daphne G), and young Hollywood muses (Hailee Steinfeld, Elle Fanning). The covers are all striking and moody (each star is crying, after all) but none of them so much as approach the darkness of Mert & Marcus’ editorial within, What Lies Beneath. Starring a cadre of major models–Lara Stone, Mariacarla Boscono, Saksia de Brauw, Kristen McMenamy, Guinevere van Seenus–and alludes to sex, death, myth (Leda & the Swan!), and a nightmarish mix of all three. Also, it’s full of nudity, so be warned. More
After building up anticipation by releasing a couple of cover shots early, Love Magazine has finally unveiled all eight of its spooky August covers. They feature such heavy hitters as Lara Stone (above), Nyasha Matonhodze, and Hailee Steinfeld. Each of the eight cover models is made to look like she is crying. It’s almost too much girly emotion to handle. Are they all on their periods or something? Which tear-streaked beauty do you like the most? More
There are two things Givenchy’s creative director Riccardo Tisci loves above all else: leopard print and crosses. Well, and black. And also Mariacarla Boscono. So, I guess four things. Anyway, the house of Givenchy has collaborated with Converse More
James Lima directed majors like Mariacarla Boscono and Jessica Stam for Prada’s Spring 2011 campaign video. Watch the top models dance amidst the baroque bananas like high fashion characters from Yellow Submarine. More
Willy Vanderperre shot mega models Mariacarla Boscono and Natasha Poly in a March W editorial entitled “Making a Scene.” They look beautiful and glamorous throughout, of course, but I thought this one was funny. You know how some women completely freak out when they come within ten feet of a bee? And the twirl around and draw all this attention to themselves and shriek? It’s like that… but noir. More
This week Prada released a cute clip of campaign faces Mariacarla Boscono, Kinga Razjak, Arizona Muse, Tati Cotliar, and Zuzanna Bijoch (the girls of Minimal Baroque) getting down to Ratatat in their Spring 2011 best. The dancing is a little spazzy, but they all look like they’re having a really good time. And what we wouldn’t do for a pair of those sunglasses… More
Barney’s has released this hallucinogenic Givenchy video to coincide with the launch of the Spring 2011 collection’s availability online. The clip–directed by Ruth Hogben, styled by Panos Yiapanis–shows Riccardo Tisci’s main muse Mariacarla Boscono as she churns eerily in dramatic prints and diaphanous skirts. Here’s a little peak after the jump, but if you want More
It was hard narrowing down the biggest, baddest, most influential and zeitgeist-tapping faces from the countless that have piqued fashion’s interest since 2000. We’d have loved to do galleries for all these ladies but it’s time to consume un-model-like amounts of food and alcohol for the holidays. Here’s our favorites who didn’t make the cut but were still on every runway, in every campaign and generally just awesome-looking. More
Pick up any fashion magazine and you’re inundated by campaigns: usually a beautiful, thin woman dressed immaculately, photographed in some glamorous way. But what separates a truly great campaign from the hundreds that clog women’s glossies every season? It’s simple: a great campaign makes you forget that you’re being advertised to. When a great model, a great photographer and a great idea come together, the results are something we remember for years. This is Part II, Part I is here. More
