If you’re going to see The Hunger Games: Catching Fire this weekend, you might as well have a fun look to go with it. I don’t even really like the series, but I’m so obsessed with the makeup, I just had to do a tutorial on it. More
Naturally, as ladies who work, we were curious to see which of these 12 Grooming Rules All Working Women Should Know were relevant to us. We were surprised to find, however, that some of them were just plain old life rules–”go easy on the perfume” and “moisturize! moisturize! moisturize!”–and some of them were… not really true? Especially the ones presented as the most set in stone–”Mascara is a must” and, on the subject of leg shaving:Â ”If you wear something that reveals your legs, then you must shave your legs.”
Certainly, as slovenly bloggers, we Gloss editors can get away with a lot–but we figured we’d come up with a more reasonable/less gendered list ourselves. More
Do you remember a time when popular movies didn’t spawn beauty collections, fashion lines, or lingerie capsules? The latest movie/beauty tie-in is CoverGirl‘s makeup and nail art collection for the upcoming second installment of the Hunger Games franchise, Catching Fire. We got the campaign’s full looks a few months back, but now we can actually see the pieces themselves.
As someone who has neither read nor seen Hunger Games, we can’t much tell you what any of these things are in reference to–though all the flame motifs seem to make sense.
Ahead, see the polish, the overlays, the mascara and more. More
It’s not just enough to wear mascara — you want to apply clean extensions of your natural lashes using excellent brushes, smooth formulas and solid volume. You don’t want clumps or stickiness or smears all over your eyes and underneath them; the “raccoon eye” look tends to exclusively work well in the high fashion world and is not so appropriate for, say, your first day at a new job when you want your eyes to look bright and defined.
Unfortunately, mascaras can get pricey. As a result, we tried out 10 products for under $20 in order to let you know which are the best ones! More
I think my favorite part of this whole argument is that Vinny (from Jersey Shore) and his bulge are involved. More
When I was a kid, I used to love beetles and snails and all things colorful that crawled. Nowadays, I’m one of those people who becomes hilariously frantic when arthropods are anywhere near me, but I still love snails.
This week, I wanted to pay tribute to our lovely little friends who leave pretty trails behind with their slime. This was kind of a weird tutorial to do since it uses so many different shades, but I wanted to play up the blended, multi-hued nature of these guys, as well as the aforementioned slime trails.
Perhaps not Gail the Snail so much, though… More

We’re big fans of Birchbox, a startup that sends women deliveries of high-end beauty samples every month. (Makeup in the mail? Yes, please!). In addition to their monthly subscription service, they also have an online shop and info-packed magazine, blog, and YouTube channel. We like their helpful videos so much that we’ll be featuring one here on TheGloss each week.
We always want our peepers to look super glam, and there’s no easier way to do that than with the perfect mascara for your lashes. We’ve picked our favorite formulas. Each has a unique wand that will lend you a different look. Plus, Birchbox editorial director Mollie Chen gives us great tips for applying mascara so you get the most out of each swipe. Watch the tutorial below to find out how! More
