Fall 2012 is showing at NYFW, which means out with the breezy dresses, the delicate prints, the bright shoes and… in with the gloom (which we’re all for). If there’s one look that landed on every major runway, it’s probably what fashion glossies like to call the “urban warrior,” a modern, usually-but-not-always minimal tough girl look for the big city. In other words: lots of leather, sharp and angular silhouettes, combat, knee or thigh-high boots… with loads of military and gladiatorial flourishes in a palette of black and not much else. See Alexander Wang, Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler and more ahead. More
“Dark and moody” go the unsurprising fall color trends at NYFW: covering the runways were muted shades of midnight, plum, and the reigning combination of black and blue. …But just when you thought it was all very bleak and Fall-appropriate… bright, fuck-off, electric reds came down the runway. Absolutely no one had his finger on this pulse better than Jason Wu, whose collection was almost exclusively shadowy shades of blue, wine and blinding red. Here are the colors to keep your eyes on for Fall 2012. More
It’s Love/Hate week at TheGloss, in which we explore all the ways Valentine’s Day makes us feel… wonderful or the opposite of that. Our sponsor for the week is the upcoming romantic drama The Vow, starring Rachel McAdams as a woman who loses all memory of the past five years and Channing Tatum as the husband who needs to remind her. And, because this is a fashion site, we thought we’d take a little trip down memory lane for some of McAdams’ very best moments on the red carpet. More
Michelle Obama turns 48 today, so first off, happy birthday! On account of the First Lady having such a bold, unique and refreshing sense of style, we went to the trouble of selecting her 10 best looks. This was a challenge! Let us know what we forgot. In looks from Alexander McQueen, Jason Wu, Thakoon, Rodarte, Lanvin and more. More
We’re not really adventurous when it comes to nails, but we’re still able to be impressed by all the weird creations nail bloggers dream up. Like these crazy (apparently easy?) studded nails. More
First of all, we’re sorry if that headline sounds like a pun. It’s not; Kristen Stewart looks legitimately vampy in her British GQ ed: Veronica Lake-style side swept hair, red lips and cat eyes. The formerly awkward Twilight star has lately been coming into her own; first with that bombshell spread in W and now this. Stewart was photographed for the November issue (wonky cover and all) by Norma Jean Roy and styled by Sally Lyndley in a number of retro swimsuits by Eres, Louis Vuitton and Michael Kors. More
Oh look, Michael Kors has designed some men’s underwear. I think it’s nice underwear but it’s hard to tell, because watching the hard bodied male model canoodle with a naked lady is making me both turned on and confused. Are we to believe that this underwear will both help men to look more like gay porn stars, and get them laid by females? From your mouth to God’s ears, Michael Kors. Sigh! (NSFW-ish, though there’s no actual nudity.) More
On Wednesday in New York City, beloved American fashion designer Michael Kors and his longtime boyfriend Lance LePere received their marriage license. More

Okay, I recognize we’re in the middle of a brutal heat wave, but… summer knits are awesome! First off, they’re excellent toppers for sundresses on breezy summer evenings. Second, they are indispensable transitional pieces. Oh, also: stores are currently flooded with them (example). So, even if adding another layer is the last thing on your mind, now’s the time to stow away. Here are some good options. More
Mrs. Mia Wallace. Played by Uma Thurman, Mia is the wife of fearsome gangster Marsellus Wallace and one of the most iconic characters in the pretty consistently iconic 1994 classic, Pulp Fiction. The failed former actress (Fox Force Five) who loves cheeseburgers, pricey milkshakes and thought experiments (everyone, she claims in a cut scene, can be reduced to a Beatles man or an Elvis man) in kitschy settings gets Vincent Vega in a lot of trouble when she accidentally overdoses in his care. She also loves Urge Overkill and air guitar. She can twist really well, too. Here’s our salute to the fashion minimalism of Mia Wallace. More

Judith Anastasia Funnie–or “Judy”–was Doug Funnie’s older sister. Judy was an occasionally pretentious straight-A student at the Moody School For the Gifted (thanks to her talents in the arts) and a wannabe actress obsessed with William Shakespeare. She also had her own personal style on lockdown and, at the end of the day, was a reliable older sister who always took Doug’s side. Also, jazzy theme music. Thanks to her ever-present beret and memorable beatnik looks, Judy Funnie is today’s Friday Style Icon. More
