After years of watching H&M create a publicity feeding frenzy with their guest designers, other big box retailers have slowly entered the designer collaboration market. Macy’s snagged Karl Lagerfeld and Giambattista Valli, while Kohl’s went the celebrity route and got Lauren Conrad and Jennifer Lopez to pretend design collections. Now, they’ve signed a real fashion gem. More
Fall 2012 is showing at NYFW, which means out with the breezy dresses, the delicate prints, the bright shoes and… in with the gloom (which we’re all for). If there’s one look that landed on every major runway, it’s probably what fashion glossies like to call the “urban warrior,” a modern, usually-but-not-always minimal tough girl look for the big city. In other words: lots of leather, sharp and angular silhouettes, combat, knee or thigh-high boots… with loads of military and gladiatorial flourishes in a palette of black and not much else. See Alexander Wang, Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler and more ahead. More
I’ll probably never be cool enough to wear a dress like this, but a girl can dream: behold the awesome, abstract shoreline print that came down the runway at Rachel Comey’s great show. The cut (especially the neckline) of the dress is already such a strong argument for minimalism, but throwing on that insanely great print knocks it out of the park. More
Yigal Azrouel showed a smorgasbord of looks on Friday, where he featured gorgeously minimal silhouettes in shocks of ultra-rich color. We couldn’t get over this luxe wide-leg trouser in electric blue paired with that effortless tan blouse (and some covetable makeup). Phoebe Philo would approve. More
Jil Sander’s final collection for Uniqlo (+J, as it is known) hits stores September 7th and there will probably be a mad rush for the crisp modern outerwear. Know what you’ll be hunting for with the following lookbook, which stars Arizona Muse and a scene-chewing wind machine. More

New Yorkers! Our friends at Ambit are having a trunk show! The indie label (designed by duo Amber Jimenez and Wray Serna) has been picking up some seriously positive buzz and now you can get your hands on its cool, effortless minimalism for less. See the flier after the jump. And, most importantly: there will be discounts on Ambit if you say TheGloss sent you. More
One of our current fashion obsessions is local label InAisce. The New York-based design house (pronounced: “in-äs-kə”) has only been around for a couple seasons now but has already managed to catch our attention in a big way. It’s structured, minimal, category-defying and gorgeous, in a palette of restrained pale grays, washed-out whites and blacks. Recalling all-time favorites like Comme des Garçons and Rick Owens, InAisce is perfect for cool urban girls stuck on the tundra and I can’t stop staring at their lookbook. So here it is. More
Why are fashion videos all so moody? This Fabien Baron-directed Calvin Klein spot is particularly lugubrious. If you don’t like melodrama and/or exceedingly beautiful people, let me break it down: More

Three things to love: Calvin Klein collection, minimalism, and always-stunning Dutch beauty Lara Stone. Therefore, the latest images from Lara’s solo work for Calvin Klein–shot by superstars Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott–is really working for me. More
First off, after going from $1,690 to $507, this Proenza Schouler t-shirt bustier dress is practically a Score. That’s a 70% discount on a dress so minimal it might as well not exist… in other words, it’s not going to look dated unless the entire population unites in an explosion of floral, plaids and volume such that colorblind golfers lord over the universe.
Jumpsuits are hard to pull off. …But if anyone is going to wear a jumpsuit and hit it out of the park, it’s Céline’s creative director and all-around master of minimalism, Phoebe Philo. Here she is not surprising anyone with her jumpsuit efficacy as the British Fashion Council deemed her Designer of the Year. More
