Earlier today, while scanning my reader for amusing stories to pick up, I came across one in The Huffington Post titled “The 7 Grossest Things Seen Backstage At Fashion Week.” There’s nothing I love more than gawking at the ugly side of fashion, so I clicked. Most of the things on the list were legitimately gross—stylists using their own spit on models in lieu of hair spray, people shaking other people’s hands right after they sneeze—but one item on the list stood out to me as potentially wrongheaded. Each year around Fashion Week, people discuss how far we have come with regarding to racial diversity, as well as how incredibly far we still need to go. Indeed, the runways certainly still lack women of color; last year, Jezebel … More
Listening to creepy older men talk to young pretty women is extraordinarily uncomfortable. This is not because all older men are inherently creepy; it’s because some of them make it creepy and inappropriate, but young women — even and especially … More
Following her “comeback story” in Interview, it seems like Agyness Deyn is quickly re-saturating the media market, and I’m not mad at it. Why do I like her? Well, she’s super cute, she’s got personality (or at least she appears to; I don’t actually know her), she knows her way around a New Wave song, and she hasn’t said anything too asinine to the press. Good for her! In the March issue of InStyle UK, Aggy plays up her British-ness with various mod get-ups that are clearly meant to reference her English supermodel foremother Twiggy. You should probably listen to some Brit pop while you look at these photos. More
I imagine it sure would be nice for people to think my face was worth $3.3 million. I should really use more moisturizer. More
A few days ago, we saw the first ad for the Alexander Wang Spring 2013 collection (above). It featured (the truly great, truly beautiful) Polish model Malgosia Bela and, strikingly, no clothing whatsoever. Why, we fashion bloggers wondered, would a fashion campaign feature no fashion? This was all starting to seem a little masturbatory for us, but then the rest of the campaign dropped and… it’s pretty great!
Steven Klein shot the set, in which Bela is styled (by Patti Wilson) like a futuristic warrior but also haunted cave woman? We don’t know. And, yes, there are clothes.
And maybe some nipple? More

The idea of people under 30 or so retiring always makes me chuckle a little bit, partially out of disbelief and also because it’s a little depressing to imagine somebody so young growing tired of his or her career and actually retires. It’s a luxury few can afford, but fortunately for Gemma Ward, she was able to take a sabbatical for, oh, 3 years. More
Even though this is indisputably Upton’s moment, Vogue UK EIC Alexandra Shulman had some amazingly undermine-y things to say about the model! More
The British Fashion Awards took place last night and the big winners were Stella McCartney (Designer Brand Award, Designer of the Year), Cara Delevingne (Model Award) and Alexa Chung (British Style Award, three years running). Here’s the model-studded red carpet, featuring them and many more. More
That’s another for the pile, Mr. Testino. More
Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez have split–after some cryptic tweets and a pap sighting or two, rumor mills place the blame squarely on the beautiful shoulders of 19-year-old fashion (and lingerie!) model Barbara Palvin. Apparently Bieber got a little too close to the doe-eyed brunette while performing at the hallucinatory nightmare that is the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and the pair subsequently took in Lion King on Broadway. …Which means you’ll probably be hearing a lot about Palvin in the coming weeks–before hordes of Beliebers tear her limb from willowy limb. Here’s a primer on Palvin’s brief but impressive career. More
