July 4th Friday Style Icon: Charlie Blackwood From Top Gun

July 4th Friday Style Icon: Charlie Blackwood From Top Gun

We were really struggling to come up with a great 4th of July-inspired Friday Style Icon: there were obvious options (various first ladies, Wonder Woman), there were ridiculous options (Jessica Simpson in Major Movie Star), and then the solution occurred to me during my afternoon viewing of the Top Gun volleyball scene (I watch it thrice daily): Charlotte “Charlie” Blackwood. The tough astrophysicist is inexplicably immune to rowdy acapella versions of Righteous Brothers songs but ultimately has a weakness for short, recalcitrant pilots (who are dangerous). Anyway, happy 4th of July and here’s our salute to Charlie, with all her back-seam stockings and retro pencil skirts. More »

Become Our Facebook Fan And Win A Chance To Snag A Nine West Prize Pack

We knew Nigel Barker was dreamy, but this makes him ever sweeter. The America’s Next Top Model judge/fashion photographer is currently working with Nine West on the company’s Runway Relief program, which works to raise funds and awareness for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, the CFDA’s charitable organization. Nine West has designed a special boot, the Modelinia, for the cause, and Nigel is teaming up with models like Coca Rocha, Jessica White and Lisalia Montenegro to promote the cause. The models will wear the boots, which contain pedometers, during New York Fashion Week, and their total steps taken will determine how much money Fashion Targets Breast Cancer will donate. And Nigel and the models are doing a photoshoot on Tuesday, August 31, to highlight their efforts.

In honor of this charitable cause, The Gloss wants to offer one of our Facebook fans a pair of Modelinia boots, which retail for $199, autographed by Nigel, along with a Runway Relief Survival Kit, which includes a tote, T-shirt and canteen. You can pick the boots in whatever size you want, or choose a Nine West gift card instead. More »
