So, here’s a weird one: we were so distracted by the spectacular runway set and the exceptionally lovely clothes that we didn’t notice a bizarre little detail at Chanel… Subtly affixed to the otherwise pristine faces on the runway were little pearls, below lips and on noses, along the ears and at the eyebrow. Like piercings. Or moles…? More
The best thing about this head topping monstrosity is how it looks like it’s about to eat the face of whomever she’s standing next to. Click through to see what I mean. More
Yesterday, Sarah Burton presented yet another unsettling, hauntingly beautiful collection for the house of Alexander McQueen, and explored some of the label’s favorites tropes–gothic romance and fetishism–in the process. The palette was identifiably McQueen as well: mostly black, with dramatic monochrome and shocks of startling color (like coral!). Finally, the headgear was particularly special: hoods and masks in a riot of intricate beading and feathers that were equal parts fairy tale and nightmare. A bunch of details and many of the collection’s showstopping gowns ahead. More
The Spring 2012 Louis Vuitton show (as we mentioned) was all ladylike: Marc Jacobs crafted pretty dresses amid some frills, some metallic details, in tweed and feathers with practical pumps in a soft palette of pale yellow, robin’s egg and white. …And yes, the runway a was carrousel. However, what we talk about when we talk about Louis Vuitton is still primarily those beloved handbags: here’s the cream of the crop, featuring a whole lot of gator and at least one very clever way of embellishing that iconic logo print. Yesterday, while sharing images of Chanel‘s underwater scene, we made a crack about how the line between runway sets and “theme room (for kids’ birthdays) at a family fun center” was sometimes very blurry. Well, then Louis Vuitton had to go and up the ante: instead of a traditional runway, the ladies of LV circled a giant white branded Louis carousel. More

The reviews are in and they are not kind: Kanye’s debut womenswear collection sucked. But Kanye himself wants people to be more understanding because he’s trying, telling WWD: “This is my first collection. Please be easy. Please give me a chance to grow.”
We say to that: no deal, Kanye. More

Balenciaga got quite the critical rubdown after the Spring 2012 collection walked Thursday morning. Apparently Nicolas Ghesquiere was pretty upset and embarrassed about those breaking benches, but the critics didn’t seem to mind once the show started (WWD quotes “one astute journalist” who called it “real fashion,” italics mine). The collection was industrial futurism, cerebral and volumetric, conceptual and weird as fuck. It will also be an editorial juggernaut come next Spring. For the time being, though, we really need to discuss the hats. More
Karlie Kloss–currently one of the world’s biggest models and teenage face of Christian Dior–closed the label’s Spring 2012 show yesterday, her ass on display in a sheer gown with floral bodice. Two relevant pieces of information will follow. More

Nicola Formichetti showed his Spring 2012 collection for Thierry Mugler (his second womenswear line for the label) yesterday to a bit of critical savaging. Regardless of how you feel about the slashed, space-y beige looks, you should note the following video in which Lady Gaga appears to have gotten sloshed on her own Kool Aid again. More
