As somebody who is in possession of a heart whatsoever, I am saddened by this. As a Latina woman with skim milk white skin, I am personally offended. As somebody who loves kids, I am infuriated. More

While there’s been a lot of talk about the absence of women of color on catwalks, there’s been precious little progress. Agonizing, incremental progress. Black girls are still given token slots on runways (usually two, at most) and the same goes for Asian women. When multiple black girls are cast, it’s often as a statement–like, for example, when Alber Elbaz sent a troop of black models clad in tropical prints down Lanvin’s Spring 2011 runway. As a finale. Since “revealing” her double eyelid surgery on The Talk last week, news anchor/TV lady Julie Chen has received quite a lot of feedback. A lot of it was negative comments from people within her own community who thought she was, indeed, “giving into the man” by getting plastic surgery to look less stereotypically Asian, so yesterday she took to TV to defend herself. If you have gone on the internet today, it’s physically impossible that you are not yet aware of Miley Cyrus‘ triumphantly atrocious VMAs performance, which was arguably racist, eye rollingly predictable, and a sign that America is dead inside. Bodysnarking aside, most of the bad things one might say about it are justified.

Rather than join the chorus of finger-pointing, I would like to step in to educate Miley in a constructive fashion so as to prevent such missteps in the future. Hence, I give you: an edutaining tutorial on how to tell the difference between accessories and human beings. Click through the slideshow to check your answers. More

Angry Asian Man, who brought the video into the blogosphere’s eyes, deems it “racist, yellow fever bullshit” and “possibly the worst song” he’s ever heard. After forcing myself to listen to the song, I have to admit: he is totally correct. Even without the insanely offensive lyrics, this would likely make my ears bleed. It possesses the musicality of the last squirt of sunscreen being shit out of a bottle. More
There’s this awful misconception that women, particularly pretty, talented white women, can’t be abusive. Emma Roberts‘ arrest is a reminder of this. But here’s why it’s not like Chris Brown — and why it is. More
