Prince William wed Kate Middleton this morning in a ceremony at Westminster Abbey (I feel like everything I write today will begin with exactly this sentence). Importantly, Kate Middleton wore a delicate sleeved gown by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. It was a morning of low heels, tasteful hemlines and insane hats. These are they. More

The “Savage Beauty” retrospective of Alexander McQueen is almost here and to coincide with the exhibit’s opening, Vogue got Steven Meisel to shoot a bunch of top models in a bunch of the label’s most astonishing creations. Sarah Burton, McQueen’s right hand for so long, discussed the method behind each look (live plants! prosthetics! sewing individual flowers onto things!) and one I found especially compelling detailed the making of this gown from the Spring 2001 Voss collection, seen here on Stella Tennant: More

The mood in Paris was somber. The runways saw countless covered figures (loads of sleeved dresses, capes and capelets topped dozens of wideleg trousers), though these are Fall collections, after all. Some silhouettes were unapologetically ladylike (like at Miu Miu and Nina Ricci) but there seemed to be a storm cloud over many of the shows: Chanel was staged in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the Alexander McQueen collection was in honor of “the Ice Queen and her court,” and the backdrop for Lanvin’s austere looks was a weeping willow. Dark, maybe, but plenty to love.

Looks like Lindsey Wixson isn’t the solo face of Alexander McQueen for Spring 2011. Sasha Pivovarova–who scored Miu Miu and Alberta Ferretti–apparently landed that stunning first campaign for McQueen since Sarah Burton took over as creative director.
High-profile Spring 2011 campaigns have been flooding the internet lately. It seems like every one of them has a buzzworthy backstory–the first campaign for Alexander McQueen since Sarah Burton took the reigns, Crystal Renn snags another high fashion brand, Leighton Meester grins for Missoni while we await the release of Gossip Girl co-star Blake Lively’s Chanel ads. Oh, and Freja Beha is still everywhere. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the campaign chute right now. More

Sarah Burton’s debut show at Alexander McQueen is getting rave reviews. While I’m totally digging the clothes, I don’t know if I love the accompanying hair looks – specifically, this ‘basketweaving’ hair. It looks kind of cool, but this would never work in real life. Then again, I guess that’s the point of couture. It’s supposed to be art, right? More
