It’s pretty hot out but that’s no excuse to dress like a slob (especially if you’re doing sweet romance shit). Here are some outfit ideas for warm weather dates that we’re currently really into. More

We’ve recently experienced a pretty intense heatwave and, unfortunately, most days you can’t just sit in a kitchen with your head in the freezer. For a lot of New Yorkers, going to work means time spent in punishing heat on subway platforms and suffocating under BO on trains. Thus, staying stylish–while forgoing obvious hot weather staples like tanks and shorts–is a challenge. In response to all this sweating of late, we’ve put together a shopping guide of ways to beat the heat while staying pulled together. More
When you think denim, you may imagine “jeans” or maybe “a shirt” or perhaps even “chambray.” FOOL. Denim can be made into everything. Here’s a bunch of denim stuff, some of which may surprise you. More
It’s that time of year: to retire the LBD and break out the LWD. It’s especially fitting this season, where white is all over the place. Some good choices, ahead. More
Polka dots are always a nice way to add something eye-popping to a neutral wardrobe without moving into the terrifying, alien world of prints and colors. Also, I’m kind of preoccupied with finding the perfect silk polka dot blouse (like this one) and it’s nice when shopping guides can be 90% self-serving. Double also: polka dot Docs. More

Blue Velvet (the movie) stresses me out. But the material? It looks great on shoes, dresses, bags, whatever. Here are some totally non-upsetting options.

Judith Anastasia Funnie–or “Judy”–was Doug Funnie’s older sister. Judy was an occasionally pretentious straight-A student at the Moody School For the Gifted (thanks to her talents in the arts) and a wannabe actress obsessed with William Shakespeare. She also had her own personal style on lockdown and, at the end of the day, was a reliable older sister who always took Doug’s side. Also, jazzy theme music. Thanks to her ever-present beret and memorable beatnik looks, Judy Funnie is today’s Friday Style Icon. More
A lot of people can tell you what to wear to the zombie apocalypse. But only we can tell you what to wear to the zombie apocalypse for maximum romance potential.
P.S. Probably not SJP’s dress from this 2008 Vogue spread. But that dress is so perfect if your first date plans include “man groping me atop the Empire State in front of a bunch of tourists who do not speak English, but will be frantically gesturing and pointing” that I just had to include it.
P.P.S. God, I hope those are not your first date plans.
P.P.P.S. Or maybe that’s a great idea! I don’t even know! More
We have American Girl dolls on the brain lately. If you were lucky enough as a kid to get stupidly expensive dolls, you were probably given the one with hair corresponding to your own. I was blonde so I got Kirsten Larson, whose life as a Swedish immigrant in harsh rurual Minnesota was kind of a bummer. I figured it would cheer her up if she knew how to skateboard and an afternoon of lessons resulted in her disfigurement, which goes to show you should never help anyone ever. Anyway, even if we had Felicity or Molly or whatever, we all knew rich girl Samantha had the best clothes. Here’s to Samantha. More
The recent ridiculous fashions at the Kentucky Derby had me thinking about what one might wear to such an outdoor event without looking like a shameless cartoon character. This got me thinking about saddle shoes, a great casual style that’s perfect for an all-day outdoor event that requires a lot of milling about and drinking bourbon cocktails. The saddle shoe (not to be confused with the very similar “spectator” shoe) is a low-heeled oxford characterized by its distinctive “saddle” usually (but not necessarily) in a contrasting color. Saddle shoes are cool and–while scoping label 80%20′s designs this morning and sad to discover their excellent saddle wasn’t available anywhere–I set about putting together a shopping guide.
