If you’re not at SXSW today, you have unfortunately missed out on a packed and heavily live-tweeted panel by Gloss girl-crush Mindy Kaling. But that’s OK, because she is so well beloved by people with Twitter accounts that we can basically recreate the experience right here. More
If you’re looking to fit in at South By Southwest, you’ll have to dress the part. And talk the part, so be sure to mention who your BFF’s father is a lot. More
Greetings everyone! I write to you from sunny Austin, Texas, where I am currently convalescing after four days of intense party reporting. (You can read about my adventures here if you don’t mind joining The New MySpace to do so. The series is called “And Then It Got Weird,” because duh.) My week was pretty well occupied by seeing bands, consuming intoxicating substances, and breaking into hot tubs, but I still found the time to take a few style snaps of people I encountered on the street and at parties. While many people looked like they’d just stepped out of an Urban Outfitters catalog, I tried to get some diversity in there, which is why you will also see a guy in a monster costume and a girl dressed like a slutty Rainbow Brite. I’m in there too, of course, because I am a narcissist. More
SXSW 2013 may be coming to an end on Sunday, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a fellow SXSW-lover to be your new friend. More
Greetings from the air! If you are reading this, I am already on my way to Austin, TX for five days of music, tacos and insanity at the South By Southwest music festival. Perusing the various fashion blogs, today, I noticed a lot of fashion advice that might be a tad extravagant for the average SXSW goer. As someone who has been to this festival seven times going on eight now, I feel I have a unique perspective on what one should and should not bring to this ridiculous event. Read on to see how to cram a week’s worth of cute outfits into a carry-on suitcase. More
Austin’s annual music & film festival South by SouthWest hasn’t historically provided the most welcoming environment for women, but that’s beginning to change. Several panels this year focus on issues facing female journalists, and so far no startups have been reduced to hiring women to attend their parties yet. Here are a few of the things the women of SXSW are up to this year.
As I alluded to in my food porn post the other day, a series of unfortunate events during SXSW led to me chewing and swallowing (and subsequently, being gastronomically tortured by) the raw leaves of the coca plant, which are used to make everyone’s favorite drug, cocaine. I half-expected to get an email from EIC Jennifer telling me to keep my degenerate exploits off this fine and moral blog, but instead I got one saying “TELL ME MORE,” so I will. More
Would you like to know what it was? (Hint: it was not the hipster headdress. I included that photo to throw you off.) More
While in Austin, Texas for the South By Southwest Music Festival last week/weekend, I made a point of eating many things. Some of them were gross, some of them were good, and most of them were both gross and good. God, I love Texas vegan food. More
