There’s nothing like the promise of lipstick, to get us to buy more lipstick. More
I understand nothing about “tradition,” I think. But I do like crazy bright green eyeliner! More
BB creams don’t care about black people. Yeah, hear me out. More
In honor of Lifetime’s newest pageant show Kim of Queens, this week’s makeup tutorial is inspired by child beauty pageants. And how awful they are. More
This was originally supposed to be Makeup Inspired By: Frosty The Snowman, but upon realizing I looked like the evil snowman in Jack Frost, I decided to switch gears and do a look inspired by the legend of Jack Frost.
I would never head out and about on the town with this look unless I was attending a holiday costume party (note to friends: please start hosting these ASAP), regardless, I might as well have blue eyebrows every once-in-a-while. More
If you’re going to see The Hunger Games: Catching Fire this weekend, you might as well have a fun look to go with it. I don’t even really like the series, but I’m so obsessed with the makeup, I just had to do a tutorial on it. More
Love bright, bold eyeliner? Me, too. The only thing that bums me out is when you spend money on something you think will be one gorgeous color, but it turns out to be a completely different shade despite the packaging and (possibly very obscure) name.
So, I decided to swatch a bunch of them on my eyes in order to see which offered the best colors! From deep magentas to iridescent purples to aquamarines, this guide has got you covered — all under $20! More
Excited for The CW’s new show Reign? It’s about Mary, Queen of Scots, and we are super excited to see it. So, in celebration of this show, I have put together my usual “Makeup Inspired By” tutorial with a sixteenth century twist. … More
Guys, I think I’m going to do one of those elegant, glamorous, “this was an excuse to wear fake fur and jewels” costumes this Halloween. I’m gonna be a walking cliche, also known as A 23-Year-Old Gal Wearing A Pseudo-Old Hollywood Costume. More
Each week, I do a tutorial based on a movie coming out, a weird thought I’ve had or a book I’ve begun rereading. They’re typically not super practical for day-to-day wear, so today, I thought I would do something a little more helpful for all of our everyday lives: heatproof hair and makeup. Why? Because the part of the country I live in has been kind of melting my face off.
Well, that, and I sweat a lot more than normal people. More
When I was a kid, I used to love beetles and snails and all things colorful that crawled. Nowadays, I’m one of those people who becomes hilariously frantic when arthropods are anywhere near me, but I still love snails.
This week, I wanted to pay tribute to our lovely little friends who leave pretty trails behind with their slime. This was kind of a weird tutorial to do since it uses so many different shades, but I wanted to play up the blended, multi-hued nature of these guys, as well as the aforementioned slime trails.
Perhaps not Gail the Snail so much, though… More
4th of July weekend is nigh and hopefully you’re sitting in your office right now, accomplishing absolutely nothing, imagining being on a beach or at a lovely BBQ this weekend–your plans sound great, by the way. But in case you were considering a stop at Sephora before heading out to that beach or garden party or what have you, we’re sharing our current favorite beauty buys for Summer.
So, a man I don’t know just stopped me on the street to tell me to “put on some makeup.” I can’t believe I took one of my earbuds out for that noise. More
It’s Springtime! That means big changes to makeup routines: gone is the matte skin, the moody ’90s lip colors, the heavy mascara, the cat’s eyes. Instead, skin gets dewier, cheeks get highlighted, liner is going from black to electric blue and moss green and lips are getting real, real bold.
Usually the Spring runways are all bold lips and pristine faces; while that will certainly be true IRL, there are a lot of eye-focused runway looks you can also replicate at home. Maybe the pink on pink craziness up there at Donna Karan is too much for you, but incorporating Spring’s big colors–blue, green, yellow, and pink–is easier than you think.
We have been testing LOTS of shadows and palettes these past few weeks and ahead you’ll find some of our favorites from Hourglass, NARS, tarte, MAC, Make, Shu Uemura, Urban Decay, Make Up For Ever, Tom Ford and more… More
