It’s Springtime! That means big changes to makeup routines: gone is the matte skin, the moody ’90s lip colors, the heavy mascara, the cat’s eyes. Instead, skin gets dewier, cheeks get highlighted, liner is going from black to electric blue and moss green and lips are getting real, real bold.
This is the second of a few Spring beauty features we’ve got planned for May–the first is here. Right now we’re focusing on that tried and true warm weather character: the statement-y Spring lip.
Spring 2013 runways from Jason Wu to Prada (that’s Kati Nescher on the Prada runway up there) showed a variety of bold lips in shades from saturated pinks to electric corals and bright reds. Don’t be afraid, though! While bold lipsticks can be intimidating, a minimal, fresh face and a bright lip is easy to wear and really flattering.
We have been testing LOTS of lipsticks and stains these past few weeks and ahead you’ll find some of our favorites from NARS, Tarte, MAC, Hourglass, Make Up For Ever, Tom Ford and more… More

This is the first of a few Spring beauty features we’ve got planned for May–first, we’re focusing on the face. It’s time, everyone. The 2013 Met Gala–or, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala, if you’re nasty–is upon us. While we have really, really mixed feelings about this year’s theme–Punk: Chaos to Couture–and we know most of the attendees are nervous about committing (despite our helpful styling suggestions!) this is still the biggest red carpet event of the year. Expect one or two unforgettable looks, lots of playing it safe, some real style, some real glamour and, hopefully, a whole lot of beautiful disasters.
So, per usual, we’ll be updating live throughout the red carpet. Come back and refresh often–expect new looks here every few minutes!
Let’s do this. More
Apparently people who can spend thousands of dollars on ostrich skin skirts and blue velvet smoking jackets have a pretty laissez-faire attitude about drug use! Huh. More
Successful sports writer and author of Friday Night Lights, Buzz Bissinger (above) recently filed a stunning, fascinating piece for GQ‘s April issue, in which he recounts the extent of his shopping addiction. And when we say shopping addiction, we don’t mean “owning more than two pairs of leather shorts,” we mean “Between 2010 ad 2012, [he] spent $587,412.97 on clothes.” More
It’s art, though, guys. More
The Oscars happened this weekend and we’re going to spend all week picking up the pieces. After furiously parsing the red carpet yesterday, we’ve decided to try our hand at replicating the best beauty looks–namely, the perfect faces of Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Kerry Washington, Jennifer Lawrence, Salma Hayek and more. Wish us luck! More
If we designed clothes, we wouldn’t want Kim Kardashian wearing them either. More
I usually think Justin Timberlake looks like a Sim, but did anybody else also find him exceptionally good looking at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday? That hair! That suit! That overwhelming confidence practically oozing from those steam-cleansed pores! More
Welcome to the second episode of our new web series Wed Bed Dead, in which editors Jennifer Wright and Ashley Cardiff must decide the (potentially extremely sexy) fate of three chosen bachelors. The show is a live action spin-off of their longrunning and popular games of Fuck Marry Kill here on The Gloss. More
It’s safe to assume that underneath her coat, Michelle Obama was dressed to the nines for her husband’s big day, but since the weather kept her bundled up, we probably won’t know until later. However, what we do know is that no one seemed to shine like the extremely stylish couple, Beyoncé And Jay-Z. More
The 70th annual Golden Globe Awards took place last night and hopefully you enjoyed our knee jerk reactions to the (mostly boring) red carpet. Unfortunately, there weren’t a lot of stand out looks last night, so consider this best dressed list… graded on a curve.
Still, red carpet reliables like Julianne Moore and Anne Hathaway looked grand, while surprise turns from Olivia Munn, Lucy Liu and Stacy Keibler kept things interesting.
…Mildly, at least. More
The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards are nigh. Yes, Hollywood’s second biggest dog and pony show is coming to your living room at 8:00 PM eastern standard time and, starting now, The Gloss will be your one stop shop for the much-scrutinized Golden Globe Awards red carpet. We’ll be updating this post with all the pretty, pretty dresses (and hopefully lots of ugly ones to keep it interesting) over the next couple hours. More
Yesterday morning, Hathaway went on the Today Show to promote Les Mis and, unsurprisingly, host Matt Lauer brought her accidental crotch flash… in the grossest way possible. More
