Last week, a reader commented on my last tutorial post about how to make your red lip last and asked, “Could you do some on applying foundation? Could you do one on make-up for oily skin?” Well, dear NeuroNerd, we absolutely can do that… More
This drag queen transformation by Ivy Winters is absolutely amazing, and makes me feel terrible about myself. More
I love how candy shelves look right around Easter. Everything turns to these gorgeous pastel shades all wrapped up in tinted cellophane, and finally, it becomes acceptable to reply “strawberries and cream” when somebody asks what you’re wearing to a party.
Also, yes, that is Peep sushi. More
Here at The Gloss, we’re big fans of standout style from all over the globe. Mercedez-Benz China Fashion Week Fall 2013 is only halfway through, but there have already been so many remarkable and lovely things seen on the runways. From unique hairstyles to outfits I will most definitely try emulating come fall. To me, the most wonderful aspect so far has been the incredible makeup done by one of the world’s premier makeup artists, Mao Geping. More
I love red lipstick. Love it. It’s my go-to makeup because when I wear it, I can just put it on with a bit of mascara and pretend I’m going for a “fresh, modern” look when in reality, I am just so very lazy.
Knowing how to make your lipstick stay on longer is extremely important. Otherwise, you will look like Adam Devine in that scene of Workaholics where he does mushrooms. You do not want this. You do not want this at all. More
Huffington Post‘s celebrity section has a knack for being melodramatic, but when they posted a photo of Madonna walking through Midtown Manhattan with sunglasses and a hat on, the headline on the front page bordered on obnoxious: “BARELY RECOGNIZABLE.” More
Despite using beauty products on many a man, I never really think about doing makeup tutorials specifically for men despite there undoubtedly being an interest. Fortunately, Yoko Ono has got it covered. Well — sort of. She’s got it rainbowed, at the very least. More
Are you a black swan or a white swan? Either way, you’re going to be applying a metric ton of base, And not one, but two sets of false eyelashes (I find this particularly notable because I can barely put on one set of false eyelashes). So, this is interesting. Yesterday, Reddit got a hold of a bunch of “before and after” photos designed to showcase the work of porn makeup artist Melissa Murphy, and I must say, she is good at what she does. Whether her subject is young and fresh faced or starting to show signs of aging, she makes every performer over in that same eerie, ageless, Barbie-like style of which the industry is so fond. Buzzfeed got a hold of them today, and looked up the actresses’ ages (which may or may not be accurate, of course) to weird it up even more. The lesson that I take from this is that while not everyone might have what it takes to be in porn, pretty much everyone has the ability to look like they are. But you probably already knew that. I am also a big fan of anything that shows porn stars as human beings and not just sex dolls, and I feel like the “before” photos give us a glimpse into the more normal, less “XXX” parts of their lives. The Daily Mail just facebooked this photo of CC the sloth getting ready to appear on The Today Show to promote “A little book of Sloth”. In the process, just by being there, CC taught you more about how to get made-up than anyone else ever will. This is what CC sloth is telling you with her large, adorable eyes: More
I am a big fan of red wine. Or, rather, I am a huge fan of red wine because of what tends to accompany it when I choose to have a glass: great food, happy friends, dark chocolate, lovely memories, horrible hangovers…
Unfortunately, there are other things that come along with every sip that are much less fun than chocolate, boozy delights: red wine stains. More
In an industry that tends to employ primarily well-known, inaccessible celebrities as the face of its campaigns, airbrushing them to the point of no return and making unsubstantiated claims about their products, it is always nice to see a woman who is not famous be honored for her contributions to society in addition to having her beauty recognized. I think I would probably wear LED Eyelashes, but it would really hinge on me making some different life choices that would allow me appropriate places to wear LED eyelashes. More
