For every sleepover I went to in middle school, I think I watched Cruel Intentions twice. While that ratio sounds absurd now, it felt so incredibly normal at the time.After all, why wouldn’t we watch the greatest romantic thriller ever made on repeat? But now, looking back, I can’t help but wonder what in holy hell we were thinking. It’s not a great movie, it’s not even in the neighborhood of good. A Review Of The Notebook From Someone Who Has Avoided Watching It Until Now

Ah, The Notebook. The chick flick to end all chick flicks. The movie that launched Ryan Gosling’s career as a heartthrob. The movie that began what is going to be a long line of Rachel McAdams rom-coms. I consider myself a hopeless romantic and I have a pretty big weakness for classic romantic comedies — so why had I been avoiding The Notebook for so long? Okay, I’ll tell you why. It’s because I’m a snob! I’m a snobby snob! I took one look at the trailer and decided it looked cheesy and terrible. And yet, it seemed like every single girl I knew loved it.
