It’s been a rough few days for women who really love jaunty pearl accessories. Not only did Margaret Thatcher pass away, so did Lilly Pulitzer. Was Lilly Pulitzer a feminist? Yeah. Sure. Probably. Seems like it. She was certainly someone I grew up with, and these are very specific memories brought to mind by these very specific dresses. More

Yves Saint Laurent’s life story would make one heck of a movie, or maybe two. A pair of rival French productions are looking to release biopics of the designer later this year, but one has run seriously afoul of the designer’s former partner, Pierre Bergé. More
A Shazam type app for clothing is coming and I am pretty psyched about it. Do you use Shazam? It’s the app that you click on your phone when a song is playing, and it tells you the name of that song and who is performing it. I know what music is playing approximately 0% of the time, so I use it constantly.
I wouldn’t say that it’s allowed me to know really cool bands, but it’s allowed me to win a lot of games of of “Name That Tune” when I use it really stealthily.
I place pretty large money bets on “Name That Tune” now. More

During the most recent NYFW shows, Marc Jacobs unsurprisingly cast celebrity-progeny-of-the-moment (non-Tali Lennox divison) Lily McMenamy to walk for his Fall 2013 collection. While we were really into the gritty glam-rock aesthetic of the clothes, we couldn’t help but feel McMenamy (daughter of supermodel Kristen McMenamy) was a little jipped.* While she got to don some high-waisted shorts, pumps and fishnet gloves, she didn’t get a single additional piece, and hit the runway holding her own breasts. That’s her up there, in case your powers of deduction are lacking (or you didn’t go to Princeton). More

The only thing Karl Lagerfeld likes more than indiscriminate derision for everything is this remarkable music video throwing us curveballs. More
Look, personally, I don’t think male shopaholics deserve to be objects of ridicule. I think that is something reserved exclusively for Buzz Bissinger. I think that largely because his GQ piece on his penchant for buying leather jackets reads like the parts of American Psycho that Bret Easton Ellis must have written when he was most hungover. I mean, look at this stuff. Just look. You cannot tell them apart. In fact, I challenge you to tell them apart. Now. Go. To try to keep them as anonymous as possible, I’m just going to put American Psycho screengrabs with all the quotes, but if you prefer to imagine Buzz Bissinger looking hilarious and pointing at the screen, you can. And answers are at the end! More

Have you been sitting around missing Mordecai, wearing fur coats, building elaborate sets, dancing to French music on beaches and… doing whatever they did in the The Life Aquatic? Scuba Diving maybe? With an underwater soundtrack? That seems right.
Basically, have you just been trying to be Angelica Huston and finding yourself slowly running out of inspiration because there are never enough Wes Anderson movies? Thank God, Prada has something for you. Prada has more Wes Anderson. Sit and savor these ads for Prada Candy done by Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola: More

If you, like me, found your fashion sense was titillated by the promising looking drawings of Rihanna’s “Diamonds” world tour costumes that Givenchy released last week, get stoked: the storied fashion brand (and skirt-maker to Kanye West) has since released some actual photos of RiRi wearing the stuff, and it’s every bit as resplendent as I’d hoped. Posted yesterday on the Givenchy Facebook page, the outfits are shown in a few different states of layering, and they do a good job of conveying a sort of regal, queen-of-pop attitude. They’re neither as colorful nor as butt-baring as what she wore on her last world tour, but maybe she’s going for a more ladylike vibe? (Ha, ha?) Or maybe we just haven’t seen the more butt-baring looks yet? Either way, I’m into it. More
