I’m not one of those women who arbitrarily believe that superheroes make bad boyfriends. I am the opposite of those women. I am entirely open to the idea of dating a superhero. Tony Stark, for instance, seems like great boyfriend material as indicated by the fact that every Iron Man movie appears to be a charming domestic drama with additional explosions. More

I write a lot about the nightmare clients, the guys who I absolutely cannot stand, and I suspect my stories so far have given the wrong impression. It isn’t that I hate my clients, I just write a lot about the bad ones because they make better stories. More

In the course of my past two years covering health and wellness issues for Blisstree, I’ve often been surprised by what draws vitriol and what doesn’t. Time and again—be it with my own or my co-writers’ posts—the ones I fear may stir anger never do; and those I’d never have suspected provoke intense scorn. More

Were you thinking that it would be nice to just continue having your period forever and ever? Do you think it would be nice to have your first child around the age of seventy (actually sometimes I think that might be quite nice). Well, blame men. Men crushed your dreams. They are the reason menopause exists. More

Last month, our sister site Blisstree posted a piece by lovely freelancer Lisa Marie Basile about how she never uses birth control. She received a ton of flack from people calling her an idiot, folks saying she makes women look bad, comments telling her it’s irresponsible to write about not using contraceptives, and well-meaning — if not a bit patronizing — emails explaining to her how to use birth control.
There were some readers who found it was directly promoting the disuse of birth control, while others simply insulted her intelligence over and over again. It was unpleasant to watch, and not simply because I am quite fond of Lisa; I was upset by these reactions because I firmly believe that we should be able to be honest to readers about our sexual choices. You guys remember the best time ever we had when those awesome DoucheBag DudeBros (Hashatg: #DouchebagDudebros) sent me all these great e-mails about the rape culture in Tarpon Springs and we all get to school them on rape culture and lulz were had by all? WELL, WE GOT SOME MORE! And this time it comes courtesy of one of my Twitter followers who posted this on my feed… More
So a lot has been written on this here website about marriage: imaginary weddings, real weddings, marriage equality for gay people, desire to marry, pressure for to marry, etc. I have even puzzled out my own unexpected case of wedding fever. Hell, Ashley and Jennifer take a moment out of each week to decide which fictional character/animal/wheat product they would marry, given the opportunity.
But one position that’s been underrepresented is that oft-caricatured hallmark of second-wave feminism: skepticism. Believe it or not, there are plenty of reasons for a person, male or female, to be reluctant to participate in this storied institution, and they don’t all have to do with hating men or burning our bras.
